Good food and good service. The crowd is a little older but if you don’t mind the grey hairs you will thoroughly enjoy the food. Great Metairie establishment. Servers are always good.
Best softshell crab in New Orleans. I wasn’t expecting to find such an amazing softshell crab on a Thursday afternoon in Metairie, but what a treat! . I ordered this dish on the spur of the moment because the two friends I was meeting for lunch both had ordered it while I was running late doing errands. When I got to the table they were each being presented with a very large, golden crab perfectly fried and topped with toasted almonds. A boat of meuriere sauce was set alongside their plates. I don’t take pictures of food (just a personal preference), so you’ll have to take my word for it. These crabs were gorgeous! I immediately ordered one and was really pleased that the kitchen hurried up my crab and brought it to me quickly (accompanied by standard issue brabant potatoes). It was fried perfectly- crispy yet plump. The almonds and sauce seemed indulgent…but so was the whole dish. I looked around and saw what other diners were ordering… veal, shrimp pasta, and an artichoke casserole that we decided to order for ourselves. Wow! Another winning dish- very reminiscent of your classic New Orleans MawMaw’s stuffed artichoke, but without the hassle of the leaves. Who knew the best authentic New Orleans food is hiding in plain sight in Metairie? The dining room was pleasant, service very professional but relaxed, crowd pretty middle aged (but it was a Thursday lunch).Softshells are a seasonal thing, so not sure if they’re always on the menu. But judging from the artichoke casserole we had and the look of the food other diners ordered, I’m planning a return trip.
