Had late lunch at Rita Maes yesterday after a recommendation from someone at the local casino. Had the lunch special, gumbo, fried shrimp and potato salad. Gumbo was highly seasoned, but not so much that you could not eat it. It was loaded with shrimp, crab meat and even a crab claw. The shrimp were fresh and fried golden brown, the potato salad was very good also. We are so glad we took the time to go to this place, the food was very good. We were the only two people in there, it was around 3:30. Other reviews compined about the wait staff being rude. The lady who waited on us was very nice, friendly and took the time to answer all of our questions. Next time we find ourselfs in Morgan City, we will certainly return to Rita Mae’s Kitchen
Great food, terrible service! I recommend trying anything on the menu, there is nothing bad here. However, you should carry out… Never dine in here.
Called and told they were open for dinner! Got there 20 minutes later and told rudely that they were closed, although others were there picking up orders! No eye contact and waitress looked like she was on something!
While the food is typical Louisiana home cooking and well done with large portions, the service was horrible… I guess we caught the wrong waitress… abrupt and rude… Bye bye, don’t need this…
HOME AWAY FROM HOME. I am a transplanted New Orleanian who moved here 20 years ago. This is my home away from home – as close to New Orleans creole/soul, outside of New Orleans. Seafood Platter, Crab Pattie, Red Beans & Rice, Fried Chicken, Seafood, Chicken and Sausage, Half and half gumbos, all to die for!A must for your bucket list. You cannot leave earth without eating here.
Place is small, but portions are large, and the food is GREAT!!!! Only about 6 tables and a few stools. Ordered the crab burger. Crab pattie was bigger than bun and weighed at least 8 oz. WOW. About 2 minutes off Hwy 90. Don’t get to Morgan City often but I will not pass though without stopping for Sweet Potato Pie….
Fantastic food. Should be Rita mays living room, because that is what you are eating in. It is ok to eat here, doesn’t look like it, but it is.
