It doesn’t cost a thing to be nice to people! Unprofessionalism by the owner was the final determining factor for me not returning. I love a good dining experience. I travel around the country and dine out frequently. Here in my backyard, we have Ma Mamas Kitchen. Several times I encountered poor service: Having to alert the staff I needed to be waited on, is one instance. They weren’t paying attention to know I had entered the restaurant- there was maybe one other customer there, so they weren’t busy. This happened on two occasions. The waitress ( there’s only been one tending to the restaurant), would be slow to return to the table to check on drinks. The food is good BUT the portions are incredibly small and very pricey. You better fill up on bread before the entree.Cozy atmosphere.I can live with some things but not an unappreciative business owner. She was rude to me when I called to discuss rates for a possible small group gathering. Maybe if the scenario was that I was approaching her with a complaint about her restaurant, she may have been defensive, but there was no reason for her to be rude to me, a paying customer. She just didn’t want to be bothered. I wouldn’t have ever made a post about the pricey food or poor service. I probably would have still dined in on occasions, because it’s close to home and as a customer, I will take some bad with the good, but pricey food, poor service and unprofessionalism is not a good combination. For those traveling to the New Roads area, I suggest trying Morel’s Restaurant, just across the street. It’s a quaint, cozy restaurant, with a lovely view of the river. The food is good also!

I enjoyed this restaurant for the first time tonight with my family. Let me set the scene… My brother, sister in law, 3 year old nephew, my mother and myself decided to chance it late. We were all hungry. Yes this restaurant might not be everyone’s style but the food is amazing. Love the pelican mural on the left wall when you walk through the door. I enjoyed the red snapper and it was heaven. Mom ate the shrimp portobello and actually ate the entire thing (walk on river and yoga). Brother had the Chicken Point Coupee with a loaded potatoe(seasoned perfectly and not oily or over cooked). Sister in law had the stuffed mushrooms and Caesar salad (low carb kinda). Nephew had the shrimp and fries (not surprised that he ate the shrimp but the fries where thick cut and he munched). The starter bread was ok but I would have added butter which they brought to the table. Everything was nice and the staff was sweet and patience with the nephew.1. Prepare to eat everything. It leaves you full to the rim before you know it. A walk on the river helped that out for us. 2. This isn’t a snotty little place. It’s charming, down home, and tons of old character. 3. The staff make great suggestions if you aren’t sure what kind of food you’re craving. 4. Parking can be on short supply but it’s downtown so that’s expected.
