We were just passing through, on the way to Texas. Stopped in Port Allen and looked around for dinner spots. Cou-yons popped up, and was close, and had lots of positive reviews. So we drove over, and found a very neat restaurant with a drive-thru as well as inside seating. The crowd was starting to build, so we got in line. Susanne and I had brisket plates (one lean and the other juicy). One had the sweet barbecue sauce, the other had the smoky. We were pleased at the flavor and tenderness of both servings. The meals were ample (Ample!), and the sides were quite good. We’ll happily recommend this place to our friends and family. Service was fast and efficient. Several happy families were eating together.
Wow! This is a great restaurant! We were visiting down this way from Central Louisiana. My husband had the special, a delicious meatloaf plate & I had the Crispy Chicken & Meatloaf stuffed potato. Both were excellent. We also go 2 shrimp stuffed potatoes to take along. They, too, were excellent! The brownies are great & if you can’t eat one there, definitely get one to go!We will definitely be returning when traveling in this area. Everyone there was so pleasant & friendly! The food is great and the atmosphere is uniquely Cajun.
This place is great! Stoped by for a quick bite and was very pleased. I had the brisket poboy with their smoky BBQ sauce and it was very hearty and delicious. My boyfriend had the shrimp poboy and the yellow potato salad. He’s a big boy too and for him it was a lot of food. Service was good and everybody was very polite. Wish I wasn’t just driving through because I would definitely come here often!
Discovered Cou-Yon’s Bar-B-Q on the way home from Our Lady’s Health Care today. Delicious barbecue, SMOKED meatloaf, authentic fresh side dishes, friendly staff, happy customers. As my Acadian friend said, they need to start a franchise! Thank you, Paul for welcoming us to your restaurant!
Cou-Yon’s has been my go-to place for amazing barbecue and, of all things, baked potatoes. It has a strong local customer base and the owners are very hospitable. But with any good restaurant that gets too comfortable with their success and loyal customer base, they have, in my opinion, begun to slip greatly in the quality and consistency of their food. I have been at least 2 times a week for the past several years and to be perfectly honest, I’m going to stop going for a good while in hopes that there is a ‘reset’ to the quality and consistency. There are several employees that clearly exhibit the air of having to be there instead of wanting to be there. Cou-Yons has a unique menu and unique flavors and they should employ unique employees that spread the same positive vibe that their food and owners do. The owners appear to be very involved so I’m not quite sure how they don’t see their employee’s lack of enthusiasm. I overheard others expressing these same type concerns while waiting in line just last week. Food wait time has also progressively gotten longer and longer. When Cou-Yons is good, it’s good. But recently, as in the last 6 months recently, not so much. The experience I had today was kind of the last straw. With quality barbecue alternatives such as Smokin’ Aces on Government Street, VooDoo and Bergeron’s, I’ll stick with those for a good while to get my barbecue fix. The owners of Cou-Yons need to take a step back and reflect on how to take their staff and product to the next level. I don’t see Cou-Yons ever going out of business because of the local customer base, local plants and they are quite frankly the best option for food in Port Allen other than Bergeron’s (which only has limited hours). However I see them losing customer base if they don’t make improvements. I don’t want to see that because I quite frankly like Cou-Yons but feel the need to express my constructive criticism in hopes that things improve. Kind of as a double whammy, Friday I was downtown and saw their food trailer so I decided to stop by. While they had an understandably more limited menu in the food trailer, I can honestly say those working the food truck were visibly bothered by having to be there and we’re talking bad about other customers after they paid and walked away and rolling their eyes. I will admit that I did not order anything as a result and left and decided I would stick to their brick and mortar location in Port Allen. However the same employees that work in the food trailer work in the brick and mortar location so there’s no getting around that.
I’ve never had a bad meal here. Prices on the cheap end, can’t ask for better service, and it is arguably the best around. A personal favorite is the mardi grass potato, which is just a fantastic loaded baked potato.
Fast, inexpensive, tasty…consistent too as I eat there alot…try lean or moist brisket n turkey
