Good food. Dirty Restaurant.. I’ve been meaning to try China Ruby since they first opened after Katrina. I used to work in the same building when I was a teen and it was Franklin’s Grill, so I wanted to visit for nostalgia’s sake. I’ll start with the good. I had the Crispy Duck and my wife had the Kung Bo Chicken. BOTH were delicious. No complaints on the food. A steady stream of take-out diners came through the doors and left with food, so the food is apparently popular. There were only two other tables seated, and I suspect I know why… So now for the bad. The restaurant was DIRTY. The table and chairs were sticky (to the point that I felt the need to shower when I left). The ceiling fans and air vents were so caked with dust that I can’t imagine they’ve been cleaned since the restaurant opened. It was also HOT in there. I recognize that it costs a lot of money to keep a restaurant cool in southeast louisiana, and I’ve become accustomed to being a couple degrees outside of my comfort range when dining in the area, but this place was inexcusably hot. And those dust-caked fans weren’t even spinning…Food is great guys, work on the atmosphere!

This is one of the best Chinese Resturants in the Parish. My only complaint is that they won’t make the fried rice without egg ,during lunch rush, if requested.
