I like a diner for breakfast & since I’m near this neighborhood, I decided to try it out. It seems popular because there’s always a nice crowd inside. I normally order eggs, potatoes, & bacon so I did. The eggs are always cooked perfect, there are ample perfect hash browns, & the bacon is crisp & good size strips. Service it friendly, maybe expect for the Doughnut lady who also works the drive thru. That could be why, she’s busy taking orders outside & in. My grandson was having a difficult time deciding….kids….& she was outright rude to him. I was glad I suppressed my feelings but explained to him people have bad days. That being said, I won’t deal with that while rating this in my review. I love a diner like Geralds & it did not let me down. I’ll be a regular.

Wasn’t sure what I wanted for dinner so decided to try someplace new. They serve both sides of the menu but I wasn’t quite in the mood for breakfast for dinner so I got the Madi Patty. Great burger!

It’s been a year since my last review and I am happy to say I am a weekly regular. If you come frequently the breakfast experience is even better. My coffee is waiting for me before I sit down and the wait staff is making suggestions before I have had my first sip. I have read a couple naysayer reviews and would encourage foodies to discount them. This is a diner. It is delicious but it is not 5 star five star dining ( a diner never is) you should sit at the bar and do not hesitate to tell the wait staff your needs. A diner is like eating with your family. Don’t be stuffy, uptight and have unreasonable expectations of gentrification. Do have a great time and enjoy the excellent and above average food. Take the time to learn your servers name and you will find a breakfast experience for life. Long live Gerald’s !!!19 Jan, 2013It’s a breakfast experience. Good food. The owner Mr. Richie is super nice and friendly. The wait staff are also very nice and fun. The egg and cheese biscuit is super good and the donuts are awesome. Great place for kids.

Donuts are good, but……. This is the third time we have tried Gerald’s and this is the third time they have disappointed. We’ve tried breakfast, lunch and dinner items there’s been a problem with ALL of it. And each time we’ve we dined there, service was an issue also. I own a kitchen inside a bar in the French Quarter. We offer table service, take-out and delivery. I completely understand the ins and outs of this business. Gerald’s doesn’t quite grasp it in my opinion.SERVICE: First visit, after lunch rush, only 2 customers in the place. No one wanted to wait on us because they were too busy bickering over who was leaving first. The bickering escalated into an arguement with cussing. Heard the F word at least once. Glad there weren’t any children around. When the waitress finally took our order, she couldn’t be bothered. She went about her side work duties and griping with the other staff until we flagged her down when we were finished. Never checked back to see if food was ok or if we needed refills, etc. Second visit, was dinner. Again during a slow part of the shift. Ordered Steak and Eggs with hashbrowns. I was served grits instead and the waitress looked at me crazy when I asked for it to be corrected. Received hashbrowns right before meal was finished, about 20 minutes later.Third visit today, place filled up after we sat down. Only 2 waitresses working the floor, the drive thru and the donut counter. Ours came to the table without a pen or pad and couldn’t take our order.FOOD: DONUTS ARE WONDERFUL. So much variety and they hold there freshness. Everything else is sub par at best. I’ve tried the following….Burger: over cooked and over seasoned. Biscuits and Gravy:Nice big biscuit but it’s ruined by the canned white gravy and the pre cooked sausage patty that is very rubbery once it’s heated. Also this came to the table at room temp at best. Grits: Bland, no salt whatsoever, barely warm. Eggs: Some times they were cooked correctly, sometimes not.I will only go here for the donuts, for fresh cooked, hot breakfast, I will stick with the Waffle House across the street. Their service is by far better also.

Yummy. Went here on 11/12/11 and it was not closed. Delicious selection of fresh doughnuts and pastries. Friendly service. Still tasted fresh the next day. Apple fritter was my favorite.
