Good food. They give you an enormous amount of food usually. However, since Katrina it seems as though the quality went down some, just doesn’t seem the same…maybe it’s me. If you are a tourist and in da parish, eat here!
Food was pretty good but really expensive. 2 shrimp plates with French fries, mashed potatoes potato salad and 2 crab cakes plus 2 drinks was $63.00. Quality and quantity are less than when it was run by older family members.
Favorite Order: Potato Poboy with provolone and gravy, baked mac and cheeseHomestyle Parish Cooking at its best. Nothing fancy, just tasty comfort food and LOTS of it. One poboy and a side of mac will seriously feed three people.
I’ve been going here for years whenever I come to New Orleans. I come down from New York. This time 3/1/2014 in the afternoon both dishes were tasteless. The macaroni and cheese was predominately Velveeta Cheese. It usually has white cheese, cheddar cheese, on top and mixed within with a touch of the processed cheese for creaminess. This day it was the processed cheese melted all over the top. It was cooked way too long on top for browning where it was rock hard to eat. It had far too much fake yellow cheese mixed within the dish where it had no cheese taste at all. Normally, this is not the case. The wop salad (the real name) had so much raw garlic that it was bitter throughout. Overall, it was a huge disappointment. I would suggest that they taste their products to see if they would eat it themselves before putting it out to the public. I guess the reason for this lapse is the restaurant feels the tourists won’t know the difference. It really is not good business to cut corners. If the new generation owners don’t want to do it like the original owners did things then they should just close it down during Mardi Gras and save their reputation.
To all the nay Sayers. Change is scary and for the first time in your lives admit that you really like something despite what your uppity friends will thing of you. Come in roll up your sleeves and unbutton your shirt and dig in Vic and Nattily style or Edith and Archie if your Yankees. This ain’t the poo poo pa do foods that you brag to your nose in the air friends about . This is who we are and how we eat this is a New Orleans suburb mixed with Italians, French, Canary Islanders and throw in a few others and this is a mixing pot here in the parish and Rockys is at the center of the mix where culinary dishes are created with time honored tradition. If you can’t admit that this place is a treasure . Then you really don’t know what Americana is. This is the red, white & blue in your face down home done right Mecca of a neighborhood joint you’ll find anywhere . Remember we don’t serve no Poo poo pa do saucer food here. See y’all at Rocky’s tell ya mama and dem to pass by and say hello when dey hungry .
Went for the first time yesterday. We were in da parish so I said why not. Took a while to order because of the silly way they do it there. Every body has to line up and give your order. Kinda dumb. But that’s how they do it. Got a shrimp PO Boy. Mac n cheese and seafood gumbo Poboy was good. Gumbo was good. Mac was what it was. Bland and greasy and cheesy, which most are. Portions were silly big. Ill come back and try other things. Price was good. 25$ for a large poboy, bowl of gumbo, and plate of Mac. Overall I say try it. It is what it is
The WORST! I don’t know if we went on a bad day but the food was awful & the service was even worse. I’m not sure what’s the deal with the baked macaroni but I’m 20 and can make a better Mac than that. But if it works for people who LOVE in flavorful food, I say keep at it. But I won’t be back
