We have been to Frostop MANY times and have always had great consistent food and service, which is exactly why we go back. We know what we are going to get every. single. time. The roast beef po’boy is awesome. It’s exactly what you want in a roast beef po’boy dressed, messy and yummy. Their burgers are great as well as their chicken. I won’t say these are culinary master pieces because they are not (except for the grilled cheese it is PERFECT). This is food that taste good, is consistent and has a history. The value isn’t great either (which is why I gave it a 3.5 rating) lunch for my family can be upwards of $40!
The food is all great. The employees and the owners aren’t very friendly. The service is very slow. During lunch when it wasn’t very busy, it took 15 minutes for my food to be prepared. The table arrangement in the dining room is a little awkward.
What a great drive-in! As we drove, we happened upon this little gem of LaPlace. While the food is slower at being served, it is worth the wait. All items resonated freshness. We ordered a Lot O Burger combo, chili fries, small hamburger, hamburger steak poboy and some fried green tomatoes. We also topped everything off with a root bear float. The burgers taste far superior to that of fast food chain restaurants. The quantity of fries in a serving was amazing. The hamburger steak poboy was superb. The meat was plentiful and it is heavenly slathered with brown gravy. I will say that the flavor of the root beer was different and not my favorite as a stand alone, but blended well with the ice cream as a float. The chili seasonings used in chili fries was mediocre as well, but did just fine as part of the whole. Do not leave without trying the fried green tomatoes with crawfish sauce….they are capable of tempting one to commit gluttony.
Not A Typical Drive In. When I drove up to Frostop Drive In I had an expectation but I am not sure it lives up. I expected a waiter or waitress to come to our car take out order and deliver the food all without us having to get out but that’s not what happens. At Frostop Drive In you can order at the window and eat in your car or go into the dining room and order at the counter. The food and drinks were ok: we had one small cherry milkshake (delicious), one root beer (tasted like Barq’s even though we were told it is made on site), and one veal sandwich (the meat was horribly chewy). The dining room was deserted (we were the only ones) and it was 5PM on a Saturday which should have given us a clue with eclectic decorations which went with their theme but in their case it gave a feeling of being unclean. I don’t think I will have to go back.
Foods all good. Love the hot dogs and homemade chili, hamburgers are really good and the onion rings are fantastic. Everything we have tried has been good. Only problem we have with this little place is the owners. They are about as friendly as a boiled egg.
