Went here on a Sunday morning for breakfast with @Hank Ford. As stated in other’s reviews it was packed and there was a wait. When we were finally seated the service was great and I really enjoyed the food. I had the eggs Benedict and the eggs were perfectly cooked. I love poached eggs. Hank had an omelet (been a while so I don’t remember which one). Due to the wait to get in we haven’t been back (Hank’s not much for waiting) I on the other hand am used to that after living in a much larger place for many years. I will continue trying to get him to go back.
There are a multitude of restaurants in Shreveport where you can have a real sit-down breakfast / brunch but Another Broken Egg is quite unique for the area. Thou it is a chain, it is far different and better than the Denny’s, IHOP scene. It also has a classy, modern South Louisiana feel that separates it from the diner crowd. The menu is chef inspired, thou a few classic dishes can be had. The new Monterey Omelette was terrific. It consists of an egg white omelette with baked chicken, avocados, onions, green chilies and tomatoes topped with Monterey Jack cheese and green onions. I replaced the included fruit with City Grits and I’m so glad I did! I could make a meal out of these perfectly prepared and seasoned Grits with bacon, onion and cheeses. Probably the biggest surprise for me, a true coffee snob, was an amazingly good cup of coffee, their own blend that is coffee shop quality. Many reviews reference the long waits to be seated, I’ve tried to dine here numerous times in the past and refused to wait. I had a mistaken impression of a simple walkup counter breakfast bar that served Eggs Benedict. ABE is far more than that, and thankfully no walkup counter! It’s actually much larger than I had imagined with two good sized seating areas, a bar with additional seating, and a small outdoor patio area. Service on my visit was great, the young man knew the menu and kept my coffee filled. He made excellent suggestions and knew the ingredients and preparations even of the coffee blend. Yes if you go at peak hours you can experience a ridiculous wait. In this case, as opposed to Olive Garden, it is warranted. I was immediately seated on my visit on a weekday after the breakfast crowd and before lunch hit. I’ll be doing this again soon!
I really have to say that we only went one time and have not gone back. The waiting period is terrible and most people have to stand up since the waiting area is omitted. That in itself was a turn off. I would say we stood around for about 45 minutes. A lot of people were standing outside and in cold or heat that gets tough.Once in you have no choice of tables as the place is small. The service is pitiful. I had a bloody mary to start with asd asked for worstershire to add to it and the waitress said I would have to go to the bar to get it. That it was in a large container there. They had no individual bottles. A very difficul walk through bunched up tables to the bar area and back, carrying my drink. Thank you very much. The menu is interesting, but I have to say the food is not great. I did like the country potatoes but that was about it. The poached eggs had a very strange flavor as if they were all cooked and then held in warm water till ordered. Not very good at all and poached eggs are a fav of mine. Not a cheap meal and a tip for not much of any service and no we will never go back. Cute idea but that is about it. You can try it if you want but must warn you if you are older and have a hard time walking there is NO ramp anywhere near the front entrance. Just a high curb. Am surprised people still go there. There are too many other blaces with brunch around here that also offer a nicer surround and good service and a more pleasurable meal for no more cost or even less. So try the place if you will, but we are done. Thanks for letting me air my views.
