Awesome flavor and awesome service!!! This is my favorite hole in the wall spot and I follow their food truck everywhere. It’s a great time every time I visit!
On a recent trip to Butler’s Smokehouse for some great BBQ, I noticed, as I left, a familiar logo on the space at the far end of the plaza. I have sampled Beaux Jax food from their truck in the past, but I was unaware that they had a brick and mortar location. I tried their gumbo a while back and was not impressed, I’m a bit of a gumbo snob, if it doesn’t taste like I’m in the southern part of Louisiana I take a pass on the restaurant. After looking into the stationary location, I saw that they really specialize in Po-Boys so I decided to give them another try.The storefront location is small; they use it as a home base for their catering and truck operations. You walk in to find a few tables and at the back a walk-up window that looks like the truck, cool touch! I opted for the Bourbon St. Chicken po-boy as it seems to be something of a specialty of Jax. The sandwich came on a smallish, 7 or 8 inch maybe, roll with cheese and slaw. While smaller than I had envisioned, it was brimming over with chunks of chicken. The chicken had decent flavor, not too sweet, thou it could have used a bit more caramelization and spice. It did have a bit of a processed type texture, kind of like bagged Tyson products. The po-boys come with Zapps chips and a fountain drink for $10, a reasonable deal.I give them high points for friendliness. Peanut was manning the whole operation by himself the day I stopped in. He was great, making food, serving and acting as cashier all while engaging the customers both regulars (by name) and first timers alike. Since they do run their catering and truck operations from the storefront, youll want to call ahead especially on Fridays to see if they are open, they do travel with the truck. I will certainly give the other po-boys a try, however with Butlers a few doors down, it may be a while
