It Was Just Okay For Us. We came on and extended lunch/road trip here. It has been recommended by at least 2 people we remember. We had high expectations. It is all the way over on the East side of WK Pierremont off Kings Highway in a yet not overdeveloped area with some trees still. The exterior is a building with a gravel driveway not too distinct…our favorite outer feature was the frying pan door handles. The interior is nice and decorated with local themes in mind. There is a good sized freezer section with many good looking items that must make the local cooks salivate. There are no booths or tables to sit at, it is to go.We were drawn to the hot lunch area and scanned the selections there. We got a couple of the boudin balls and pepper jack boudin balls as well. We each got a crawfish pistollette, wild wing pork shank and a crawfish pie as well as a sample of cracklins. This was where the just okay came in. We are 2 guys from East Texas who like Cajun Food. We would never pretend to know the subtle differences in these fine foods or judge them, we just give our opinion. We have had all these items at other places too except for the crawfish pistollette which had a great texture and sweetness and made it our favorite.Having said that, we had great hopes for the boudin balls but feel they were fried maybe too much and this took away from the tasty interior. We ate them all but thought they were just okay. The pork shank was good and easy to eat but would have been better also with some type of sauce as another reviewer mentioned. We left wishing we had got a meat pie because we love those and the crawfish pies were good but there are other things crawfish are better in…..The cracklins were just not tasty, hard and bitter.Maybe this was not the best visit for us and maybe we should come back for another try….whatever, it was just okay….nothing against the place and such at all.The service was friendly and typical but no diet dr pepper. We finished everything we ate and would some again and try other things too.JG score of 3 (+1 for food, +1 for atmosphere, +1 for price, 0 for no diet dr pepper, 0 for service, 0 for we probably won’t return)
Not a restaurant, but they have ready-to-eat items for take-out. We liked the Boudin Balls and the Crab Pies were delicious, crispy bread on the outside and creamy crab goodness on the inside. Yum!
Love it!. Have eaten several items, but in love with the boudin balls!!! Haven’t eaten any other that tastes as good. So happy they opened a store in Bossier, but didn’t mind the drive into Shreveport to get those yummy treats. I am not a Louisiana native and have only lived in the state for about 8 years, but I am sold on Louisiana cuisine by Bergeron’s. You guys rock!!!
My dream come true. Everything I dreamed of. I am a Virginian born and raised, turned on to Boudin and real smoked sausage by transplanted Cajuns living in Virginia who would bring back the goods from Louisiana.I have since deemed myself knowledgeable about Boudin especially and have made my own on several occasions. I have, along with my Cajun friends found and order a couple times a year the best Boudin available. It is from southern Louisiana but I wont mention the place in case this site does not like you to mention competitors. The female wife/owner at Bergerons assured me their Boudin would be as good or better than the afore-unmentioned competitor so I bought some to take home to VA as we were passing through Shreveport from Texas. We were not disappointed…not as good as the best, but the absolute second best I have found.I loaded up on Boudin, andouille and smoked sausage to the tune of about 90 bucks worth and traveled with it in a cooler, and in hotel fridges until we made it home to Virginia. Everything is fantastic, just wonderful. The smoked sausage is proper…the real deal. If you are eating that pink supermarket stuff called smoke sausage you have not had proper smoked sausage. In fact, if you are eating that pink supermarket stuff called polska kielbasa, you need to find a german place and change your world.I made gumbo using the andouille…delicious. I could not be happier. I HAVE to call and see if they will dry ice ship.Be aware, this is a market, not a restaurant, but locals are extremely lucky to have this place because they can bring a meal home of various varieties. Also, be aware they are not open late! They close at like 5PM or something like that.Bergerons makes me wish I lived in Shreveport…but Virginia is so much more beautiful, I wish Bergerons would open a place near my house.
Goodness. Incredible…have not had a bad thing there, all the stuffed chickens for the grill are awesome! pork tenderloins, green bean casserole, cajun cornbread dressing! plus lamp food, but way better…smoked chicken wings and meat pies/crawfish pies ROCK!!
Great Cajun Food!. While not a traditional restaurant, this market has the best Cajun food I’ve found in the area. In addition to the market items they have a prepared food for takeout area. The whole smoked chicken was fantastic. Great smoked flavor while still being moist. The boudin balls are terrific, some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They are crunchy on the outside, full of boudin flavor on the inside, thou I prefer mine a little more spicy. The Wild Wings are really tender pork shanks. Get them with BBQ sauce, a sweet / tangy sauce as good as any BBQ joint in the area. There’s plenty more, the boudin and sausage are out of this world. Meat pies and other goodies are hot and fresh and prepared perfectly. Churchy, hot and not soggy like most.
