A great little step back in time with great food. New owner is still working to fix up this landmark so it is still pretty rough decor but the food was great !! The pancakes were some of the best Ive ever had!!
Nice n cozy little caf just south of I-20. The parking is crazy here, but I took a chance and parked at the building next door in the front. There is no possible parking in front of the cafe itself, and because it was raining cats and dogs, the rear parking area of the restaurant was muddy. I think everyone was shocked just to see me come in. I was summarily asked what I wanted to drink without a welcome, but maybe they just get down to business here. The workers were crowded around the front counter, so I ducked to the side and grabbed a nifty little booth to the side. Grabbing a menu I decided on the Hungry Man Combo. There was a little confusion with the side dish. The menu stated that it came with pancakes, but my server kept asking me what kind of toast I wanted. We rectified the situation after discovering that it indeed were pancakes. I then figured out that the server was brand new, so she was just learning the menu herself. The apparent owner came in a little after I did, having been trapped for a time in the rain and traffic. While they chatted it gave me time to look at all of the kitschy photos and knick-knacks on the wall. Both black and white plus some color photographs from the fifties and sixties bedecked the walls. The pictures were of assorted caf exteriors of different eras. Very interesting. The food came out quickly and as a whole, it was good. The patty sausage was thoroughly cooked and tasted as expected. The scrambled eggs were a little too cooked, but were still passable. The grits were creamy and done just the way I liked them to be. Everything was well seasonednot too much nor too little. The pancakes were the best part of the meal. These were two round fluffy monstrosities of some of the best breakfast flapjacks Ive had in some time. I would have been just as happy eating them for breakfast by themselves. I never know whether or not I should have pancakes, because some are very small, and others, like these are so large. Keep that in mind when you order. I took a picture of them for reference. If you like breakfast, you might want to keep this place in mind. I was the only one there partaking, but that may be because of the rain. Otherwise I believe this is the type of place that is frequented a lot.
It’s Been A While…. All I will say is that I pine for the days when the joint was on Southern Ave.
As a 34 year old native Shreveporter, I’ve heard about the Cotton Boll, but today I experienced it. I had a two egg omlett with bacon, tomatoes, jalapenos and it was the best I’d ever had. Our server was great too!
Disappointed. I ordered a hamburger to go and expected something big and home cooked based on the reviews. After waiting a while, I was handed a frozen burger patty assembled on a couple pieces of toasted wonderbread. It’didnt even fill me up and it costed 5 bucks. What a rip off.
Great Food…Not so great service. The breakfast is well worth metioning… however the service isn’t. EVERYTIME my team of co-workers decide to order breakfast from the there the initial phone call to place our order at the Fairfield location leaves us with a loss of appetite! What has happened to customer service??????
Went to the Fairfield location for lunch today. Service was horrible. Our waitress obviously hates her life. We have gone here for a few years and never have had service this bad. Get some new waitresses that actually enjoy the job you give them. There are too many people out there that would love to work and show it. Food was ok. Our waitress said there was no hot water cornbread and 1 min later the other waitress told her table she would bring some right out.
