Just returned from my anniversary dinner. I had been to the Cub before a few years back and it wasn’t nearly as good the second time as the first. I do enjoy that the restaurant is small and closed off from the bar, but it still feels like you’re in someone’s basement. I went in tonight knowing i wanted what i had last time, the filet and shrimp with salad and potatoes au gratin. They were so amazing last time, but this time they were just ok. The steak was good, but i think thats just because the filet cut is a great cut. The salads are wedge salads in small bowls so you get messy trying to cut up the wedge. The potatoes are cooked nicely, but the cheese was grittier than i remember. I also had fried shrimp and they were WAY over cooked. Luckily their tartar sauce saved the day there. My boyfriend had the fried soft shell crab. It was ok too, but tasted like oil and salt water. Again the tartar sauce helped. The rolls were just ok too. They are basic potato rolls that aren’t baked in house and were quite stale. For a place with a reputation for an upscale steak experience you’d think the rolls would at least be fresh. Santa Fe or Texas Roadhouse have way better bread, salads, and sides than this place for half the price. Overall, dinner was ‘meh’ and i feel like someone stole my money after such a mediocre meal and atmosphere. It will probably be years before i return again.

Good Food!. The steak and soft shell crab was delicious. The service was excellent. We went for our anniversary dinner and this was a much more delightful experience than last years anniversary at W’s where we were in and out within 45 minutes. I don’t like being that rushed for a nice dinner. Cub is a win!

Best potatoes au gratin I’ve ever had. I used to think I didn’t care for potatoes au gratin, but turns out everyone is just doing them wrong. These were amazing.
Best steak and AuGratin potatoes in town! They are to die for! Wil makes some great food. Good wedge salad too.
