A bakery that also serves burgers? Genius. Great burger with even better bun. They also have several plate lunch type offerings on the board, that I’m sure are just as good. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up some cookies on your way out.

Great Place, Super People, Good Burger. Tucked away in a neighborhood that is now off the beaten path, Ferrier’s has the feel of a mom & pop diner of 25+ years ago. I went in on a weekend night avoiding the lunch crowds. You could tell many of the customers were regulars probably for most of those 25+ years. My main reason to stop in was to finally try their coveted burger that recently did very well in a Times poll of best burgers in town. I chose the West Coast Burger with avocado, sprouts and portobello mushroom. I can see why there is a divide among those commenting on the burgers, the bun indeed is very nice, made in house, a big plus. The bun is very important, but a great burger starts with great meat. Ferrier’s could do better here. It’s a hearty 8oz. patty they say is fresh but it sure has the consistency of a frozen pre made patty from Sam’s, the better high end one but still… The ingredients were all fresh including the avocado, you can’t fake that! Besides the patty being dense and overcooked (a tip off, they don’t ask how you want it cooked) the burger lacks with no signature sauce or condiments (they put packaged mayo and mustard on the plate). I’d call it a diner burger with some gourmet burger toppings. As others have mentioned the waffle cut fries are the big hit on the plate, they could really run with these but they don’t seem to get how good they are. So does the burger deserve a top 4 finish? Well, no. Bistro To Go won with a great burger but the awesome burgers from Frank’s and Walk On’s didn’t even make the top 16! Ferrier’s has a built in following but to remain relevant I hope they take a fresh look at their good but dated product. They have more than burgers so as much as I enjoyed the people and atmosphere I’ll be back, catfish anyone?!
