Best muffeletta. Anywhere. Period. Dine-in, to-go. Doesn’t matter, perfect. One of my favorite places for more than 20 years. Passing through the Shreveport area? This is a must!
Get The Large!. I totally agree with Skwarepan… next time I’m getting the large muffletta! I had the Centurion, and while it was good, the original my wife had was even better! I swapped her half mine for half hers. Even better deal!! Can’t wait to get back to Shreveport to stop here again for lunch.
Louisiana Magic. I like JG’s description of this place as being a place to go if you want something you have never had. Or at least recently. It had been awhile since I had a muffletta. I make panninis at home with a press and whole olives but I wanted the real deal. I read so much about the background of Fertitta’s, from the food to the architecture that I had to stop by. I’m so glad I did. Everyone is so warm and inviting that I quickly fell under their spell. I told them I was a newbie and they gave me the rundown of their menu. I settled on the basic small muffy. Small because the large feeds two people. The muffy has mustard sauce, cold cuts, ham, and the marvelous olive spread on a toasted bread round. It is served warm and crisp. and with some Zapp’s jalapeno potato chips on the side, I had one heckuva meal! I may attempt the large version the next time!
Great lunch stop on the way to Texas–or on the way back! First time and plan to come back every time I’m passing through. Atmosphere, history, charm, and great food. Nice owners, too.
Always Go Back. Used to eat there all the time when I lived in Shreveport (until 1975). Moved around the Southeast several times, but whenever I’m in town, I make it a point to go by and order myself a muffy. I’ve eaten those cold sandwiches at the Central Grocery, but they don’t even come close to the Muffelatta’s at Fertitta’s.My only gripe is they are not open on Saturday. Other than during holidays, I am rarely in town on a weekday.
Absolutely amazing muffuletta! Even my wife who hates olives loved it. Great atmosphere, an older building with lots of character, great service, and delicious sweet mint tea! Make this a place to take a lunch. You won’t be disappointed.
