My wife and I don’t live close to a Joe’s Crab Shack so it has been a few years since we have eaten here. The place hasn’t really changed, still spacious and noisy (which only takes one loud table). Our waiter, Mike, did a great job. Very attentive, checking on us several times, polite but not bubbly. My wife ordered her standard coconut shrimp and it was good, as usual. There were10 large shrimp. I ordered the Go Shrimpin’ which has a mixture of shrimp. All were good especially the stuffed shrimp with cream cheese and jalapenos. The quantity was more than I should have eaten, but I did anyway. Still one of our favorites for seafood.
After a long day of shopping at the Louisiana Boardwalk, Joe’s Crab Shack hit the spot. Friendly wait staff, kid friendly, great atmosphere and good food.
Steam pots. My wife and I went there this past Wednesday for the first and last time. The wait staff was O.K. but the food was not. I had the Barrier Reef Steam Pot And my wife the Orleans Pot. I have never ever had crab legs so messed up. They obviously sat in water and were reheated since they were limp like pieces of licorice sticks—no cracking these! We also had the garlic mussels which were an insult as it was made with the same diced garlic full of preservatives that you buy in a jar at any grocery store–very bad taste. I wanted to complain but my wife says just eat and never come back. I agreed. I have heard that this place wasn’t worth it and now I know why. We spent Good money on garbage. And when I asked for extra bread for the garlic mussels, they charged me for it !!! We will spend our money where the food is much better and cheaper.
I’ve been to Joe’s Crab Shack in different locations and its delicious. Been to other seafood restaurants that are not a chain also. I know seafood restaurants have a fishy smell but this place smells of real bad seafood. Imagine throwing some fish fillets in a full trash can and letting it sit in the sun for a week, that’s the smell. Walked in and asked for a table, before she grabbed the menus we had changed our minds. Just the smell alone made us nauseous for half an hour
I had to complain to have the hostess to find our waitress after being seated. The steam pots are not seasoned well and tend to be over cooked every time. Joes is very overpriced for what you get on your plate.
If you want to eat decent sea food, this is NOT the place to go. We went here on a relatively slow Monday night, but still waited more than an hour for our food. I had the fisherman’s platter, which was fried was too long, and tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for a very long time. It was soggy and almost inedible. The crab cake was bitter and old tasting. I was unable to eat it so the waitress asked if I wanted a substitution. I replaced it with popcorn shrimp, which came out soggy and cold.My husband ordered one of their crab boils which came with mussels, clams, shrimp, corn on the cob, and potatoes. Everything was way under seasoned and over cooked. The shrimp was like rubber and almost impossible to chew. The crab wasn’t too bad, but very bland and tasteless. As for our waitress, she was nice enough, but not very good at her job. After being seated, she took about 20 minutes to take our drink order and another 15 to bring them to us. I might have over looked this if it were busy, but the place was only about a third full. After we were served our food, she did not come back to check on us at all. I actually had to flag down another waitress to be helped.Needless to say, we will not be returning. Don’t waste your money here.
I should have my head examined. Went to this chain seafood restaurant when passing thru Shreveport instead of simply asking the locals. Overcooked shrimp, lobster, and crawfish. Nice waitstaff though. Not a good overall value
