Good Fish. The set up, (bean soup, coleslaw, hush puppy’s, green tomato relish) is as good as I’ve had locally. I had the all you can eat mixed (whole and fillets). The batter is a bit thick but very crunchy. If it were seasoned a bit more this would be some great fish. It’s good and came out too hot to eat, right from the fryer! I didn’t need a second round, the 3 large whole fish and 3 good size fillets with fries were more than enough, I took home 2 fillets! The service was good. It’s obvious it’s a locals hangout. Everyone seemed to know each other. The servers stood and spoke at length with tables full of people. It didn’t hurt the service thou, just a bit different. Not much for atmosphere, but its clean and well run. We’ll be back!
Got there about 20 minutes before closing but everything still tasted fresh. Had the Seafood Platter. The breading was very good and everything tasted fresh. The service was very good.
Moving here from Tennessee I thought my days of eating good catfish were over. Til I found this place. Wow. Awesome fish and te beans are amazing. I’m hooked. Probably eat here at least once a week. Best in town.
Dined at lunch. $7.99 for protein & 3 sides is a good deal, especially if you throw in dessert. But, if it’s all bland & tasteless, then it’s just belly-filler & thats available at any fast food operation. There is potential here, the cornmeal based coating on the catfish was nice & crispy, lightly seasoned and hinted at better things to come, but the fish underneath, while hot, had a sponginess about it that immediately disappointed. Fried okra started as frozen & wan’t too bad, but the portion was skimpy. Green Beans & turnip greens tasted as though they were made from the same recipe, just using alternate main components. Hush puppies were ok, and the faux banana pudding was edible. Business is not great & the reason may be that a restaurant that I have not tried, but gets better ratings/reviews is just a littleore than 2 miles away. Other folks seem to have a higher opinion of Sonny’s Seafood & next time I’m in the area, that’s where I’m headed.Ambiance: 3rd gear (out of a possible 6)Service: 3rd gearFood: 3rd gearValue; 3rd gear
Good food, served hot, and adequate portions. Fried fish or the chicken fried chicken are good choices. Beans taste canned. Pudding is ok. For weekday lunch.
Great Catfish!!!. I am very picky about my catfish, but this place was awesome!! get the family baskets and they load you up with catfish, hushpuppies and fries for only $20.00. So glad i found this place. only problem is its way out in the boon docks. but worth the drive.
