Old tin signs, framed masterpiece copies, grape bunches hanging from the ceiling, and 50s style booths and tables welcome diners to Monjunis Italian Cafe. It’s cozy and kitschy, perfect for date night. Although I was there for a late lunch, I enjoyed the atmosphere nonetheless. I have been a fan of Monjunis on Louisiana Avenue for decades, hands down the best lasagna ever. But I had a long drive ahead and needed to eat light enough to stay awake on the road. So I opted for the lunch portion of the baked ravioli. First comes a basket of toasted bread and their sweet marinara for dipping. Be aware not much of classic Italian fare is light, but since this was a lunch/dinner, the ravioli was a perfect selection. I was served promptly. And the plate is screaming hot, so take notice. The serving dish is made of metal with a decorative design, and it keeps the food hot through the meal. It’s a clever device. The ravioli is palm sized, and served with a basil tomato sauce paired with alfredo as well. This is a bit too savory for me so I asked for the classic sweet marinara instead of the tomato basil. This dish is a 440ft home run, over the center field wall, and out in the parking lot. A half dozen portion is perfect size. Monjunis also serves excellent tea, mint or raspberry. Mint was a refreshing selection for a scortching hot day. Service was attentive, music was soft rock & pop. I found myself singing along to an Eagles tune from the 80s. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I will go back when in town again.

Great food and the good news is that the bread is back. You know the bread that they serve with wonderful monjunis original sauce

What happened to bread?. What happened to the delicious appetizer bread they would bring to the table. It’s been replaced with overly dry, crumbly sliced white bread… Hint, it doesn’t work the same as previous bread! My family regularly ate here and part of the draw was how much we liked snacking on the bread while we waited on our order. Now the bread doesn’t get touched. Amazing how one little change can affect the appeal of a restaurant. I have asked about it 3 times and have received 3 different answers. Otherwise, food is ok. Sometimes a bit inconsistent, but usually ok.

Bad bread. This used to be our favorite place to eat when in town however we hate their new bread! Yuck! We asked our waitress what happened and she said they used to get their bread from the other Monjuni’s…not able to do that anymore. Too bad. Next time we’re in town, we’ll be going to the other Monjuni’s! How hard can it be to come up with good bread?

Awesome food. Their muffalettas are the best that I have ever had. I recommend that you try one. Just about everything that I have eaten taste amazing. If you want to stay on the cheap side, get the meatball po-boy. If you don’t mind spending a few bucks, try the shrimp aurora. I eat their cheese pizza all the time (and I usually don’t even like cheese pizza) I highly recommend this place. The food is awesome, the staff are very respectful, the atmosphere is great.

Great food!. Love: bread, house salad, and lasagna. Have also used Monjunis for work events and the staff always makes sure I have everything I need.
