I liked the sides just fine. I should have ordered the catfish. The steak was pretty salty for my taste. Not a great value for the price. I have ordered less expensive meats elsewhere that have better flavor.
We only went one time. We had eagerly awaited the opening and finally got to go. The view was as beautiful as it was when Cross Lake Inn was in business. However it all stops there. No Senior menu, no 2 or 3 piece catfish dinners. Very limited menu. I ordered the all you can eat catfish fillets. I received 3 pieces of catfish. The french fries were very good, excellent in fact. The pickles were really awful and I like pickles. The slaw was good. The bean soup ok. And the catfish excellent. The pie, which they say is homemade and they brag about is not good or worth the money. My husband got the steak. It was ok, but not the best I have ever eaten and quite frankly what I broil or grill at home is far better. I did give him one piece of my catfish and the waitress looked horrified. I think maybe since it was all you can eat she thought we were trying to get by with something, but I never asked for more and he had a steak in front of him.The service was sad. We ordered drinks from the bar and they took forever to get to us. There were only 3 tables in the places that evening. I asked the gal to hold off on our food so that we could enjoy our drinks. I took one sip as the pickles, etc. arrived. Well, turns out the drinks were so weak and watered down that I did not need time to enjoy –. They are not worth getting at all, and we had 2 different drinks. A waste of money (especially when you add tax and tip to the bill. Then the walk in the dark and lonely parking lot, gosh, scarey And I did see a news report a few months ago that the owner was robbed in that parking lot at 9:30 at night and at gunpoint. That pretty much says it all. We had not been back since our one experience of too much money for what you get and that pretty well cinched it for us. I had hoped they would be a winner, but from reviews I have read since, not gonna happen. The review that blew my mind was the group of 4 eighty year-olds that got the catfish, never asked for seconds, could only eat one piece and asked for to go boxes. They were told they could not do this since it was all you can eat so the leftovers stay. And the review where the customer sent back his steak (which many say is not good or is tough, etc.) and the owner would not take it off his bill and called the police on the couple because the man refused to pay for a steak he could not eat.I think it is sad, but I do not think the restaurant will remain. A place that far out has to depend on return customers and I doubt that customer base is there. A shame. If they would have a 2 or 3 piece platter besides the all you can eat and a Senior 1 piece platter I think all would be better for them but they will not consider any of that because the owner says it is family tradition, ok. Well lots of luck. Hope next one that buys the place thinks about the community they are in and the location which is a city away from the subdivsions full of people that eat out at night. Sadly they do not think. Well it will be interesting to see how long they do last. Meanwhile I am doing a bang up job of cooking at the house, a better steak and great catfish so who needs the drive or the cost and I can make a good drink at home.
