We Were Stuffed But Still Pushed Some Pancakes Down.. After about a year, we finally ate here at the monthly recommendations of 2 people we know.JG score of 7/10. (+2 for food, +1 for atmosphere, +1 for price, +1 for Diet Dr Pepper, +1 for service and +1 for we would return)The food here was good across 4 dishes we tried. Our favorite item was the pancakes with syrup which either of us have a hard time ever remembering having any this good. Our least favorite were the rolls which looked like they had been ripped off a standard Hy-Top roll of rolls…nothing great about them at all. Now in between all of these were many good things. We enjoyed the sides from the Greens or Okra and Tomatoes or Macaroni to the slightly less outstanding Fried Squash or Fried Okra or Mashed Potatoes with gravy. Biscuits and gravy were well above average. The biscuits, unlike the rolls, seem homemade and they give you a ton of gravy to dip in. Cornbread was soft and a little sweet and great with butter. Our main courses were Country Fried Chicken with Cream Gravy and Hamburger Steak with Grilled Onions and Brown Gravy. Country Steak was average to a little above. Hamburger Steak was very good even though it was dry. Overall, really good food across the board. The atmosphere was nice. A quaint setting inside with many tables to choose from, an enclosed grill area, and many cool pictures, framed puzzles or items as well as mounted old relics like a gum dispenser, old neon sign and a mounted clock/radio/light. It seemed like a place where you would get home cooking. Lots of old cigarette smoking ads are on the walls and many interesting people of all types were sitting everywhere. We went at about 1300 and it was busy. The price was very reasonable. We each got a steak with 3 sides and a drink. Throw in 2 biscuits with gravy and a short stack of pancakes and 2 drinks and altogether with a tip we paid combined about $30…. They do have Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke. Our service was very friendly. It was also very fast. We had our food in no more than 5 minutes and we did not even order the specials for the day. Our waitress was busy but smiled nonstop and was nice and checked on us a lot and refilled our drinks maybe 4 times. We would go back here easily anytime. Before we went, we read up on this place and found many unhappy people who complained about the food and service. Most of them happened to be just 1 review or a few review people each. Don’t take those people and their reviews seriously because they are at every place we eat. One bad review and then they are out. All we can testify to is this one visit and for us, it was very good food, atmosphere and service and the people who kept telling us to come were right on the money.
Not worth a try – skip this one and go elsewhere. There are far too many other good places to eat in the area for anyone to waste time and money eating at this one. Very typical greasy spoon diner fare, but not done well. Service was so-so, the food was not horrible, but not good at all. I tried this placed based on reviews I saw online. Wish I’d gone elsewhere.
LAZY LIARS. Just called at 8:31st to place an order. The woman who answers the phone (Sheryl) says they quit taking orders at 8:30. The website says served till 9pm.Either your just lazy or your website lied.
They have the worst service ever. We arrived at the restaurant at 10:15 and at 11:20 we had still not received our breakfast. All we ordered were two kids orders of pancakes and two omelets. When we asked the waitress where our food was she said she tried to go in kitchen to see but the manager kicked her out and 3 other people came in and sat down and ordered breakfast and it only took them 10 minuted to get their food and when we asked the waitress again she said we r just busy and it takes time so we walked out. She never even asked us the whole time we were sitting there she never asked us if we needed anything while we were waiting. Everyone around us that came in with us got their food and people who came in after us got their food before us and she was still making excuses. Worst service in all of Shreveport. I will never recommend them to anyone.
Greasy Spoon, Good Food. Southfield is your typical greasy spoon diner. Really good food. They do breakfast all day long. Their cheese burgers are yummy and greasy, just as a cheese burger should be. And they also offer daily specials. As with any greasy spoon, it might be a tad grimy around the edges and the dcor is nothing to write home about, but the staff is friendly, the food comes out quick and it’s consistently good. Which is probably the reason they always have a huge lunch crowd, very popular spot with the locals. I know that might not sound like high praise, but I would definitely recommend it as a place to eat!
