I have eaten here four times since Christmas and re-discovered the place forgetting about it because the Trey Yeun was on the north side of town. But since they closed in Hammond, we’ve even gone to Mandeville to eat with the Wong brothers. Looking for a respite from the tired old buffets up the street, we stopped Saturday night. I even gave my boss a gift certificate for Christmas and he and his wife enjoyed their meal. We arrived around 6 pm. I ordered a softshell crab Cantonese: BIG MISTAKE. It was not fit to eat. It had obiously been frozen then thawed in a microwave. It had a strong freezer burn taste and was a soggy mess. What meat I could deserne had the texture of pork. One out of five trips was terrible. It’ll be along time before we go back. Linda had a large bowl of Won Ton soup which was okay. Unlike the Trey Yuen, Lotus puts no shrimp in the Won Ton soup. Trey Yeun was a cut above. People in Hammond are looking for a nice Chinese Restaurant to fill the gap left by the retierment of the Trey Yuen. This clearly is not the answer.
