Brahma Grill seems just a bit out of place for the Bangor we know. It’s a bit hip/trendy with a creative cocktail list and dining options found in major urban steakhouses. We stopped for an early dinner and found the food very good! For starters the cocktail list was decently imaginative, and was accompanied by a decent selection of wines and beers. We tried the corn fritters appetizer and the small plates wedge salad, to start. The fritters were very flavorful, puffy and golden, covered with maple syrup and bacon, then served with a mustard sauce, and it all worked well. The salad was a 1/4 wedge of lettuce with a nice blue cheese dressing and a copious helping of fresh crispy bacon. My GF opted for to apps for her meal, the Wild Boar BBQ on bruscetta and the potato skins. The Board was served sauces with pickled onions and had good flavor, though the difference between it and pulled pork was indiscernible. The potatoes were served with bacon, cheese, scallions and horesradish sour cream that cut the richness nicely. I couldn’t pass up trying the Elk chops. A trio of decently sized chops were served medium rare, with a side of creamed spinach and bacon mac and cheese. The chops were nicely spice with a dry rub and served with a side of the house steak sauce. The meat was lean, pink and tender and very flavorful, slightly less gamey than venison, but certainly not beef. The spinach was a little too sauced, but decent for north of New York. The mac and cheese lack much flavor, but was decent, maybe just the cheese selection? All in all we very much enjoyed our meals, though the price matched an urban steakhouse setting which Brahma doesn’t embrace. The colors and look seem like they’re trying, but it lacks a bit of the luxuriousness. In the end, the food was very good and service to match, so if you are looking for something better than a chain meat-house and are willing to pay for it, they deliver.
