El Pepino. Burrito with chili and sour cream topping11 Apr, 2015As remembered. We have been patrons of Pepinos for over 35 years. Today’s late lunch reaffirmed why we continue to go. The drinks were well mixed, the food was as reliably tasty and fresh as always and they offer great sauces, salsas and chips. The service was excellent and the re-vamped location in downtown Bangor was very inviting. Our only gripe was the length of time it took to get our meal. Overall the experience was excellent.
NO TASTE.. The beef is just beef. The chicken is just chicken. Go home, fill a tortilla with 1/2 a pound of lettuce and some dry un-seasoned beef or chicken. That is pepinos.
Worst service. Food was good but I would recommend take out. Server was terrible at best, attitude, questioning customer when she made mistakes. I have had this service problem here before so it seems to be a pattern. Food bings me back but it’s hard to keep at it with servers crashing your night. Once a year is plenty for me.
This place does not have Mexican food. I’m not sure what type of food this should be called but the raisins in the enchilda are a good indicator that this isn’t authentic Mexican. The food is bland, even the salsa. We have tried it twice hoping that the first visit was a fluke but we won’t be back.
Not the usual mex. People who are used to most Mexican restaurants in the country may be disappointed because it is different. A lot of the items are very good and they have a loyal clientel. I really like the seafood chimichanga. The drinks are a bit feeble. The menu never changes but people seem to find something they like. We go often
Worst excuse EVER for Mexican Food!. We stopped at the Pepino’s @ 570 Stilllwater Avenue, Bangor, Maine, at around 6:00 PM yesterday. It looked promising because the place had a large crowd so we decided to give it a try. Since we are native Texans, we are always on a quest to find good Mexican food and have had it everywhere from the interior of Mexico to Paris, France. We ordered margaritas which were bland, tasteless, made with too much ice and where was the tequilla? The guacamole was also tasteless with the consistency of green, watery toothpaste. We chopped up the tomato to give it some sort of texture. When we ordered a combo of steak & chicken fajitas, we were informed that that was not possible. That’s when we should have paid for our drinks and left as this was a first ever. When the order of fajitas arrived, there were three small pieces of steak, not cut up or grilled??? and two tortillas. In our experience, sharing an order of steak fajitas is usually MORE than ample for the two of us. At $15, this was way overpriced! To say that we were underwhelmed with this restaurant would be an overstatement. The ambiance was cold, with scarcely a hint of Mexico in the furnishings or decor. If you want great Tex-Mex in Maine, try the one in downtown Ellsworth. It is authentic in every sense. Pepino’s management would do well to check it out!
Missing Something.. I tried Pepino’s for the first time today. The service was great and the restaurant is lovely. I was, however, pretty disappointed in the food. I ordered a #2 combination platter– burrito, enchilada and a taco, all with chicken. The portion was large, but the food was *so* bland. The chicken in my taco was just plain chicken, very dry with absolutely no seasoning. At the very least, how hard is it to add a packet of taco seasoning? With Mexican food, I’d expect flavor if not a bit of spice. The burrito was the same… bland chicken. I enjoyed the enchilada thanks to the enchilada sauce. I would come back to Pepino’s again and try the food with a different filling or maybe with a side of salsa.
