Another Great Meal. One of in not Bangor’s best restaurants. Bravo!
Terrible experience. The food was decent for the price but did not make up for the rude, pretentious attitude of the owner who was snooty and snappy to me and the group of friends I was eating with. As we were leaving, we overheard the owner making snide comments with the waitstaff about our group. Was blown away by this as it was completely unprovoked…. Horrible atmosphere thanks the the rude owner…. Will not be dining there again.
My partner and I dined here and had a really wonderful evening. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable regarding their menu. We started off with the lobster spring rolls, Korean beef and goat cheese in honey and nuts. All were very good and the Korean beef was super tender. For our entree we both had chicken and waffles and were quite satisfied. Dessert was creme brle which was awesome as it should be. The staff was alot of fun, so much that we came back the next night for an equally wonderful dinner. We will definitely be back next time we are in Bangor. Highly recommended!
Delightful. Whether you’re from away and craving a bit of truly well crafted dining, or from around the block and looking for a meal to inspire and delight, the fiddlehead restaurant will provide it, and more. The atomosphere is warm and welcoming but polished, the food is thoughtfully chosen and beautifully prepared, and the specialty cocktails are some of the best I’ve ever had–made with fresh ingredients by a bartender with a twinkle in her eye–who could ask for anything more?
To this well traveled foodie, Fiddlehead was a welcomed surprise in Bangor. The menu is well balanced and the drink selection matches the diverse menu. What is readily apparent is that the owners and the chef have taken great care in selecting all fresh ingredients to delight your pallet. Having a nice beer selection only enhances the experience. Fiddlehead gives you a great value and definitely should be placed atop the Northeastern gems.
Yes Virginia, there is fine dining way up there! I had one of the top ten meals this year at the Fiddlehead. I travel weekly across the country and was pleasantly surprised at the ‘foodee’ selection and presentation and the ability to make you eat everything in front of you!! Well done!
Bangor’s hidden gem. Arriving in Bangor this afternoon, I can’t say I was expecting any, let alone an excellent culinary experience. Having read reviews and received recommendation from our hotel staff, we decided to try The Fiddlehead.Right from the start I was extremely impressed with the service. Although we did not have a reservation, the hostess (who later introduced herself as the co-owner) managed to squeeze us in. She made it clear that we had a 1.5 hour time constraint (while apologizing perfusely and thanking us for our courtesy) but we were even finished well before, without feeling rushed in the slightest. Throughout the evening, our server continued the hospitality. She answered all of my questions, which I will admit were numerous, without any hesitation. If she was annoyed, she sure did a great job hiding it!Now on to the most important aspect, the food. To start we were provided with a homemade cornbread. Instead of butter, they offered thick, sweet molasses to drizzle on top, something I have never seen in a restaurant before. The Fiddlehead stands behind its food, ensuring that everything is fresh, local and organic if possible. The blackberries in my salad came straight from the owners personal garden. Although it was very lightly dressed, the ingredients and flavors spoke for themselves. The sweetness of the blackberries and red onion balanced perfectly with the saltiness of the feta. Meanwhile the richness of the toasted hazelnuts was cut by the pepperiness of the arugula. So simple, but so good.Being in Maine, I had to have the lobster lasagne for an entree. Typically, using a delicate meat in such a formate would be recipe for disaster. After all, in combination with thick noodles, gooey cheese and hearty tomato sauce, how could lobster possibly be the star? The chef made it work by taking a completely non-traditional view of what lasagna should be. It came out in a cute, individual casserole dish, coated in molten lava mozzerella cheese, the sauce bubbling ferociously up the sides. Normally I would be against mixing cheese with any variety of seafood but because it was only on the top of the dish, it actually helped to seal in all of the flavors, rather than masking them. Eagerly I broke the top, unvailing the delicious surprises inside. Layers of fresh egg pasta enveloped in a rich, silky cream sauce. One bite you would get the sweetness from the caramelized leeks, in the next, earthiness of crimini mushrooms. And of course the best part of all, meaty chunks of Maine lobster claw. The only disappointment for me was the apparent lack of salt. To me, seasoning is the number one most important aspect of ensuring that flavors are brought out to their full potential. Nothing a simple salt shaker couldn’t fix, I just hate having to ask for one.Being a self-professed chocoholic, I had to try the flourless, dairyless chocolate torte for dessert. Omitting flour, not too difficult, but cream and butter? I loved it though, because only eggs were used to leaven, nothing distracted from the pure, dark chocolate decadence. It was like eating a bar of straight 70% chocolate in a dense, fudgy form. The word delicious just doesn’t quite cut it!Too bad we aren’t spending more time in Bangor because I would definitely return to The Fiddlehead. They are taking pride in their ingredients while still creating food that is fun and comforting. You can’t get any fresher than this! becauseilikechocolate.com
