BBQ? Buck’s Naked is it.. After dining at Buck’s in Freeport and Portland many times, I realized I had only ventured into Windham once. So, this past week, a couple friends and I decided to take the trip and head to Windham! Right off the bat I was happy- the host greeted us and asked if we would like a table for 3? We opted for the bar, which had a few guests at it already. The smell of the restaurant was absolutely awesome. Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh, smoked meat? We sat down and were immediately greeted by the bartender who was full of energy and excited to see our faces. Their drink menu had an extensive list of funky cocktails- some even came with ribs on top of them! They call it fooze (booze with food). Pretty genius! I have had their bloody buck and their buckito a few times and those are definitely my favorites. I ended up ordering a vodka soda because they have a great happy hour. $2.50 well drinks. $2.50 is a steal. After perusing the menu, my friends and I decided on three appetizers- the lamb shish kebob, fried pickles and brisket burnt ends. WOW. The fried pickles were super crispy and a lovely golden brown. The dipping sauce is an ancho lime mayo that has a nice little zip to it. The lamb came out a perfect temperature of medium and literally was melting in my mouth it was so good. The grilled pita was delicious dipped in their homemade tzatziki sauce. The bartender was super attentive and made sure we were happy and even got us extra dipping sauce. Might I add that my drink was never actually empty? We went all out on our entrees. Yes, it was lunch time, but we wanted to be full and knowing from their other two locations- the portions are quite wonderful. I was feeling like chowing down, so I ordered a half rack combo with sausage. I attacked my ribs and my first bite was smoky, tasty and had basically a perfect pink smoke ring. They don’t mess around with their BBQ folks. This is the real deal. The sausage was sweet and smoky- something I wish I could eat every day. They have four sauces in a funky crate on the bar- a house BBQ, sort of a smoky chipotle. A North Carolina sauce- smoky with a peppery vinegar touch. A blueberry BBQ- enough said right there. And a South Carolina mustard that was vinegary and peppery and perfect for my sausage. My meal also came with cornbread and I ordered their cheesy cheddar grits. The grits and cornbread with piping hot and absolutely delicious. The grits were unlike anything I had ever eaten before. I wanted the sweet potato pie, but I was so full I couldn’t handle any more food. I’m sure it is as decadent as their other food. Overall, Buck’s in Windham hit it spot on with my food and I left full and with a full TOGO container. Lunch for the next day? Yes please. Some other things I really appreciated about Buck’s was the cleanliness. The restaurant itself was spotless- and I really appreciate that when I dine out. Also, the bathroom was super clean. Their staff was friendly, knowledgeable and happy to be at work. It really was a great experience and I will definitely be back to eat here.

Dry. boring. expensive. Food tasted like it sat in a hotel pan in a warming box for an hour. Dry and flavorless.Expensive too, especially for what you get.Do they even bbq there or is it trucked in from a kitchen somewhere else?

Very good food!. My daughter and I had dinner there last night and we found the food was great! The price was not so bad either. We found the staff to be hard working to make our time there just right. The place was really nice with the post and beam style interior. I have a feeling they have had a recent renovation of staff after reading the prior posts. I been to the Freeport site and in my judgement this one was better than Freeport. Cant wait to go back!
