NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I got seated at a table and the hostess just walked away before I could point out there was not enough room for me to sit without bumping the chair behind me. Even bumping chairs, I still wouldnt fit, So I had to go around the whole dining room to sit next to my wife. Complaining to a waitress along the way. then when the waitress brought us our drinks, she couldnt even get that right. At that point I left. If they cant seat you, and give you your drink, I dont want to know what they do to your food when you arent watching. When I wrote to the Governors to complain, I never even get e response. Now I can see why they had to close the Wells and South Portland stores.
Diner Breakfast…. Cheaper than Denny’s! Didn’t want a fast food breakfast, so we swung into this place to check out the breakfast menu. Didn’t order the buffet, because I wouldn’t eat $9 worth of breakfast food. Ordered off the menu. They were good about allowing us to customize our order (i.e. got 3 different flavors of pancakes on one plate). Waitress was super friendly. Thought it odd that there were baked beans on the buffet, but maybe that is a Maine thing? What won me over was overhearing the manager tell newlyweds that their breakfast was on the house…very cool!
Megamom. Always dependable for a good ‘home cooked’ meal w friendly service fro a very reasonable price.
Absolutely Horrible!!! By far the worst dining experience ever! Maine has one thing going for it, stunning coastal scenery………and that’s it! I have lived here for 11 years after living in several other states and Europe and have always maintained that Mainers have absolutely no idea what good, not great, food is. What’s more amazing it the the uneducated, overweight populous blindly return again and again to these slopatoriums. I dined on a Sunday morning with my 3 small children and was talked into the Buffett which is like a kid waking up in food heaven. It’s one thing when adults don’t like the food but when children go back several times and can’t find anything they like then you know there are big problems. Most of the food tastes like it comes from plastic/cardboard/ petroleum products. The fruit salad was from a can. It was completely in edible. And by the looks of the other reviewers I’m right. Avoid any of the locations of this slop house unless you’ve committed a mortal sin and seek punishment! This place makes Denny’s a five star restaurant!
TERRIBLE food. And I mean terrible. I have literally tried three times to go to governor’s and get good food. The first time I tried the chicken fingers. They were breaded so very lightly that it was more like baked chicken, and they had a strange taste and texture. The second time I had the steak and cheese with green peppers and onions. The bun made up 90% of the sandwich, (not an exagerration) and the very little meat that was in there was dry and tasteless, plus there was hardly ANY cheese or toppings whatsoever. Lastly I ordered mozzarella sticks and poutine just as appetizers. The poutine hardly had any gravy or cheese, and the mozzarella sticks, though huge, were cold on the inside and lacking as well. these people need some new cooks, and probably some new training.
3 strikes. I have been to the Ellsworth Governor’s 3 times now. When they first opened for lunch, once again for lunch, and today for breakfast. This has to be the slowest restaurant I have ever eaten in.There was one other table there today when I went for breakfast. I ordered eggs. I waited 25 minutes. I used to love the Bangor Governors, and have also been to the Old Town one, and that was ok. But this location in Ellsworth is going to be short lived if Mr Wadleigh doesnt fix it- and soon. Let me know how that goes- I plan to never go there again!
Not Bad. For our first visit, we weren’t overly impressed. I had the reuben sandwich with mashed – it was very good. My husband had the garlic burger with fries – it was dry and very thin and the fries had that freezer box taste. We told the waiter and were treated to a free slice of pie. The prices were basic, not bad. Sonny was our waiter. He was fantastic with service and very honest regarding ingredients of the poutine. Atmosphere was very clean. We did not care for the host who seated us. He seemed to be flustered and forgot we were waiting for him to lead the way. Had we not been so tired and hungry, he would have been the reason if we had left.
