On the way from Bangor to Bar Harbor we stopped here to grab a bite after hearing this place was not to be missed. It’s a pretty colonial style home not far from the main highway and it was packed when we arrived. They have a screened porch and inside area for dining, plus a lovely park area outside with chairs and benches on the Union River. We were seated on the porch and scanned the menu. The menu isn’t large but contains many seafood selections especially lobster! Lobster roll, steamed lobster, stuffed lobster, lobster stew—you name it! There’s also burgers and salads, some chicken selections and steaks. We opted for a bowl of clam chowder, a seafood salad, and the Big Lobster Roll with a side salad. For drinks we had a soft drink and a local brewery’s IPA.The side salad was ok, leaf lettuces with one cherry tomato and an onion/cucumber slice. The clam chowder was terrific, full of clams and potatoes. They bring an excellent soft garlic bread loaf to the table with packets of real butter–it was addicting! The seafood salad was a nice portion of shrimp, clams, mussels and of course lobster meat on a bed of lettuce. Nothing special and in our opinion it could’ve used more OOMPF. The big lobster roll was a pile of lobster meat tossed in a simple mayo and served on a buttery bun. It was good but the lobster was cold and had an off-taste, metallic and bitter. I did not like it and liked it even less when I discovered a small bug in the lettuce on my lobster roll. Ew! The French fries served with it were excellent. The prices are steep here; total for clam chowder cup, side salad, lobster roll, seafood salad, one IPA and one soda was $ 77.29 before tip.
Best clam chowder and blueberry pie near Acadia!
The ambience is charming with beautiful views on the river. The staff was friendly; even the gentleman outside steaming the food greeted us as we walked inside. The food is pricey, but worth it for the experience. Everything was delicious, however the clam chowder and bread was exceptional! I’d definitely return!!
Great seafood, great service. The great staff was only eclipsed by the tremendous food. They treated us like family from the minute we walked in. My two kids loved the lobster stew, as did I. My wife also had a cup of it before her salmon from the fish house menu. I had the sea scallops which were prepared perfectly and had just enough lemon to bring out the true flavor of the scallops. The blueberry pie is made fresh daily – you can tell – and is tremendous. My son asked for a whole pie! We will get to the Lobster Pot once each time we visit Ellsworth, if not more, from now on.
Clam chowder was excellent, loved the quality of the fresh halibut, however was not crazy about the Provenal sauce. Try the cilantro cream sauce if you get the fresh fish. The open face blueberry pie was ridiculous! not too sweet…so good you MUST get it even if you’re stuffed!
Adorable setting with Fresh Seafood. The restaurant is located right at the river with great views. It has a home like charm. The food was delicious. The lobster was sweet and meaty. The clams and mussels were steamed perfectly. We also ordered the seafood platter. It was fresh and wonderfully flavorful. Food portions were huge so it was definitely worth the price. It was a great start for our family vacation
Great Maine stop. Ate here 3 nights in a row – got the Downeast Shore Dinner with 2 lb lobsters. For dessert, the best on the menu (and we tried several) is the open faced Blueberry Pie. It is topped with a sweet cream and the blueberries are piled 6 inches high. Great service and friendly casual atmosphere.
