Consistently I have had nothing but positive experiences at McLaughlin’s. This is my go-to restaurant when I have visitors in town or when my husband and I want a nice, quiet meal on the water. Note: This is not a good place to take a vegetarian as almost every item on the menu has seafood in it.The restaurant is only open until 9 in the summer and I also recommend a reservation for a weekend visit. Live music starts around 5 pm on the weekends which is a nice treat if you want to enjoy a cocktail by the fire pit before dinner. The fire pit has Adirondack chairs and benches encircling it and all offer gorgeous sweeping views of the Marina and the rising moon. Dinner seating is limited, but has both indoor and patio seating (beware of Mosquitos in July). Halfway through summer the restaurant added outdoor dining by the fire pit, which is great on a warm night. The crowd this place draws seems to be a more mature crowd and not too many young children. This is definitely a place to escape from the kids for date night.I definitely recommend trying one of McLaughlin’s signature cocktails. They are extremely creative and truly I haven’t tried one I didn’t like. Mentionables include the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Martini (I don’t like vodka and I love this) and the Godiva chocolate martini (that’s not the real name, but you’ll find it).Their lobster mac is cheesy and filling. On my first visit, the mac and cheese was loaded with large chunks of claw and tail meat, but on my last two there was a much smaller ratio of lobster to mac and there were definitely only leg meat and no tail/claws. I was definitely disappointed. Their lobster dinner is served with your choice of starch and mixed veggies; expect to pay market price. The Lazy Man lobster will fill you up and offers 1 1/4lb of claw and tail with drawn butter, your choice of starch and veggies. One of my favorites, but expect to pay up for this. Several of my guests have ordered the Lobster Newburgh and both raved over the light, white, creamy sauce that the lobster is served in. My husband and his father ordered the seafood pasta and loved it. Their blueberry pie a la mode is one of the best in the state. Can’t end this review without mentioning the staff: they’re friendly, helpful, prompt and professional. We consistently have great service from the moment we walk in the door to the minute we leave. The staff is accommodating, relaxed and makes every visit feel like a special occasion.Don’t be nervous by the port-o-potty near the parking lot, they do have an indoor bathroom to the right of the bar.McLaughlin’s is definitely one of my favorite restaurants near the Bangor area, I recommend checking it out!
The best restaurant in the Bangor area! That’s a fact!. My wife and I were boating this morning, and returned to Hampden at noon. We decided to have lunch at McLaughlin’s at the marina. It was very good! The servers, the service, the atmosphere, the food – all was top notch. The fries were crispy. The cole slaw was excellent. The lobster roll was perfect!! This place has come a long way over the past 4 years. In my opinion it is now the best restaurant in Bangor/Hampden!!
Best Seafood Restaurant in the area. We have enjoyed this restaurant many times. We find them very accomodating whether it is just the two of us or when we are with larger parties of friends and family. They go out of their way to make sure that the food, atmosphere and service are outstanding. The bar tender has incredible knowledge of wines and never fails to recomend an excellent choice to accompany our meals. The view of the river and marina is so nice on a summer or fall evening. I wouldnt miss a chance to stop in at this restaurant anytime we are in the Bangor area.
Good food and good service. They even found me a light jacket to borrow when it started to get cool in the evening.
Dinner and a show.. After hearing about the restaurant at the Marina, I figured it would be worth a try. Upon arrival the view was excellent, and the waitstaff seemed somewhat friendly, even if a little unorganized. After ordering a couple of drinks our party put in a food order. The food was expensive, but promised a different spin on the norm. For an appetizer we ordered tuna steak, which seemed expensive for the 5 or 6 oz of meat that was delivered, and was cooked charred on one side. Our waitress then took our order, we ordered the chicken special of the night, fried haddock, salmon salad, and a filet steak. The waitress had a very hard time explaining the dishes to us, and seemed somewhat slow in general. The seating was in an outdoor patio enclosed only with zip-tied plastic sheets, and heated by propane heaters. It was cold and uncomfortable, and the mosquitoes were no treat either. Upon receiving our food in 3 different segments separated by 5 minutes each, all out of sides were cold, the steak was overcooked, and the chicken special was nothing like expected. The almost 20$ salad consisted of 5oz or so of salmon, and a few scrids of lettuce. All said in done this was already a disappointment. But it gets worse. The owner was not only rude, unhelpful, and obnoxious, but also intoxicated. We watched her run through the dining room YELLING at waitress after waitress with a half-empty wine glass in hand. This TOTALLY ruined the experience. Our table, along with another table nearby ended our dining experience as soon as possible, paid, and will never return. To summarize: overpriced food, poor seating, nice view, terrible service. If I wanted to watch a hobbit run around screaming, I would have went to ‘Dinner and A Show.’
Good food, high prices. The food was very good and the servers were nice; however, they do not warn you that soda refills are not free. They ask if you want another and will bring you as many as you want, then you get the sticker shock at the end. I like the food but I’ll have to not recommend this place because I just find that very unprofessional.
Very dissatisfied with service, very unprofessional. Would not recommend this restaurant .
