Yummy. This is a great restaurant and I have been there with my husband and family many times. My favorite is Saturday and Sunday Brunch. It’s a great price and lots of good and fresh food. Highly recommend it!

Best sushi in Portland. I have been to every sushi restaurant in the greater Portland area. Benkay by far has the best sushi in Portland. The staff is always pleasant and very good to the customer. The salmon and tuna always seems more fresh and they do not cut corners when it comes to their food. Other places in the area seem to lack the freshness, skimp on the amount of fish in their rolls and the rice is always perfect.
Sushi Fest. I’ve never had traditional sushi the way Chef Ando prepared it for us this past week. He chose many of his specials from the special list – I tried the kokoro which was 5 pieces traditional style – I think next time I will go for the bigger portion to get a taste of everything! I am looking forward to going back soon!!21 Apr, 2011YUM!. I never knew that you could eat lobster raw…did you? It was absolutely amazing!! Benkay had a special Lobster sashimi with a great grapeseed oil dressing, it couldn’t be any fresher than how they prepared it. They have never ending specials that change weekly – for instance I tried a Hawaiin fish that was out of this world. I will definitely come back to Benkay…possibly again tonight! Highly recommended for someone looking for great sushi, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff.
Benkay benkay benkay. I’m from mass, and my friend reccomended visiting this restaurant, and I’m not gonna lie, I was quite blown back by how delicious it was. Me and my friend shared a Volcano roll, which is battered deep friend scallop and scallion on top of a roll covered with a sweet sauce, and a couple other rolls and it was just so tasty! I really can’t wait to come back to maine and eat sushi there again!
Pretty good. The waters are quite kind .The food is great. The only thing that was not to my liking was the wine. Guys I drink baby oil and play game fudge. i beat off to sesame street a,b,c’s mix tape using WD40 and a hammer. Oh and footsie pagamas
Best sushi in the country. I have been coming to Benkay since chef Seiji Ando began here in 2002. He transformed this decent Japanese restaurant into something amazing.Sure – the decor is not incredible, but that’s not why you come to a Japanese restaurant. The sushi here is the best I have ever had – trust me – I am a sushi snob – I have had sushi in New York, San Fran, San Diego, Tulsa, New Orleans and many other places – Benkay is tops in my book in the entire U.S.Let chef Ando take care of you at the bar – finest and freshest fish – best rice I’ve ever had (and if you truly know about sushi, you know this matters!).Trust me – you will not be disappointed.
