Not only surviving, but thriving since rebranding from Bintliffs, Bayside American Caf is one of those locals only places that has slowly gained popularity amongst visitors, the cozy two-story space telling a story of its both its owners and the region by way of not only the cuisine and clientele, but also by the overall look of the restaurant itself.Originally founded in 1990, but under new ownership since 2003 and renamed one year ago, Bayside American Caf is the sort of place likely to generate crowds regardless of time or day of the week, but assuring seating by arriving just moments after the 7am opening on Independence day seating was requested in the downstairs area where people soon gathered in waiting, the self-fill Coffee station one perk, as was the ability to watch a bustling caf kitchen.Self-appointing itself Portlands Best Brunch, the all-day menu with a few specials offering a wide variety of savories and sweets, it was after some deliberating that a three-item order was selected, the restaurant soon full with waits exceeding thirty minutes by the time the server arrived with the a trio of sizable plates.Eschewing specials in favor of signatures, many of Baysides most famous dishes carried over from the restaurants earliest days, suffice it to say that those ordering topped pancakes or French Toast need not worry about adding Pure Maple Syrup as there is no lack of sweetness offered in either the swirled Cinnamon Pancakes with Cream Cheese Icing or the eggy Brioche dredged in custard with lemon curd and Wild Maine Blueberries, the Lobster Benedict no less smothered in a thick Hollandaise that delicately walked a tightrope of light citrus and substantial richness without being *too* thick. endoedibles.com
