Really yummy little corn tacos. The fish in the fish tacos comes from five min down the road. Pulled pork BBQ taco and fish taco were delicious. Friendly and fast service. No complaints!

Cheap eats. Funky place. Guac was just ok. Fish tacos just ok as well. I like my tortillas a bit crunchy…these were soft and flour-y. Mexican corn on cob was good as was service. Seats not comfortable, but with pricing I am sure they want to turn tables over. I will go back.

A Huge Disappointment. I assumed this place would be decent due to the massive quantity of people I see eating there every time I drive by. It was slightly chilly, so we chose to eat indoors. The atmosphere was cramped and loud with very uncomfortable seating. The menu options were limited in comparison to most Mexican joints Ive been to. We ordered chips with salsa and burritos. To my disappointment, this was the worst Mexican fare I had ever had. The salsa was bland and unimpressive, the burritos took way too long to prepare. I ate about half of mine but couldnt bring myself to finish it. It was supposed to be a pollo burrito, but it was mostly just rice with black beans and tiny chunks of avocado and tomato. There were about 5 tiny pieces of chicken on the entire burrito. It came with no salsa, guacamole, sour cream or cheese. Eat at Chipotle instead, the burritos are ten times better and they cost about the same.

Horrible Service. I’ve never felt like I was such a bother to a waiter then I did eating at El Rayo. I will say the food I had was great, though overpriced. I have eaten inside twice and had really bad service both times. Just hope you don’t get Peter if you go there. He was horrible, I have never not left a tip in my life, but didn’t feel even a little bit bad to not leave one this time. He litterally gave me more then one dirty look. He even went as far as saying he would just pack my food to go. He was apparently having a bad start to his day because they had just opened. I eat out 3 or 4 times a week and I can’t say I’ve ever had a worse server. I gave him money to pay my check and after five minutes of him doing other things I asked for my change thinking he thought it was for him (it was over 10 dollars in change). That was a bad move, he nastily said he had to wait for someone else to open the register and that he wasn’t planning on keeping my money. My mouth just dropped. I really couldn’t believe it. Will definitely think twice about going back.

Bad service. In my opinion the #1 objective of a restaurant (other than serving decent food) is to have good service. last friday our party of five was told there was a 45 minute wait so we chose to hang out and order some drinks. 30 MINUTES LATER our drinks came! After over 1 hour we were seated. The food was average at best. i have no complaint with the prices. i mean, if someone doesnt like the prices, then don’t eat there. The waitstaff omitted some drinks from our large food tab. we had no problem paying the smaller bill (still over $80) especially since we had waited incredibly long and dealt with some very unsympathetic waitstaff. that is, until this morning when we noticed they illegally ran our debit card for the remainder of the drinks that THEY ERRONEOUSLY LEFT OFF OUR TAB! we never saw the bill for those or signed off on the charges. that has left a bad taste in our mouths.

There’s so much about El Rayo that you want to be good. Pleasing decor, creative drinks, extensive menu but unfortunately the appalling service will leave a bad taste in your mouth. Having worked in the food service industry most of my adult life, Im probably one of the more forgiving patrons in a busy restaurant. Everyone has an off day. But this is my third visit here and I have to say the servers are so unattentive and RUDE, I can’t say I’ll return for a fourth try. But on the up side I will say the Mexico City style corn cob and fish tacos are the shinning stars here.

Love this place! Don’t understand the negative reviews- the food is authentic, the drinks are tasty, the crowd is funky, and the fried chili pepper appetizer are soooooo addictive. We go after every Sea Dogs game with the kids.
