I was at Front room yesterday and had the worse experience of my life. My friend was celebrating buying a new car and I was celebrating the first day I am allowed out house because of illness. As everyone know, I wanted to go to front room. I have been going Front Room at least once a week since it opened and some for dinner. I knew everyone there, I raised my son there, even now, when ever Michael comes home from LA, we must stop at Front Room. Yesterday, when I went all the staff were new, part of me wanted to leave, but, it is the front room and they never disappoint. The staff was a disappointment and the food they served me was horrible. I refused to and sent back. The staff was arrogant especially the cook. I was so disappointed, I am here to say, I KNOW THE OWNER AND HIS WIFE DO NOT CARE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR, I HAVE BEEN SAYING HOW WONDERFUL THEY ARE, THE STAFF AND FOOD BUT AFTER YESTERDAY I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. I know you dont care, you have one of biggest cheerleaders. Thank God they are many GREAT restaurants in Portland and surrounding. You dont even deserve one star!

I used to live in this area a loooonnnnggg time ago 🙂 There was NOTHING in the way of restaurants. I wish this place was here then! I may never have relocated out of Maine! 🙂 My husband found this and we decided to try brunch during the week. Great service and food! Started with the bread of the day (coffee cake) which was grilled with butter. Husband had the eggs Benedict with freshly carved ham. I had the special – grilled brioche topped with roasted pumpkin, mushrooms, spinach & goat cheese with a scrambled egg on top. Does the mixture sound odd – you bet. Was it amazing..?? YES!! Would never have come up with this combo but it TOTALLY worked. I can’t wait to return!!

Love the location but the food doesn’t compete with most of Portland breakfast places. Mimosa selection was good but the service was a slow for not being that busy!

Mediocre Food and Service – What Happened?. Last evening I visited The Front Room & Bar for the first time in two years. I was looking forward to dining again at this venue because of the enjoyable experience I had there on several occasions in the past. Upon being seated by a cordial hostess the server arrived at our table and began reciting the specials to my friend while I was still reading the menu. She completely ignored the fact that I was immersed in the menu; I never heard a word she said because of the noise (which certainly was not her fault). Nevertheless, she merely assumed I was listening without ever acknowledging my presence. Subsequently, I asked her to repeat the presentation she has just made to my friend, which she did in a hurried, monotone voice exuding absolutely no personality or genuine warmth. This initial encounter with the service was off-putting to the say the least. The server then left us to peruse the menu. The last time I dined at The Front Room I recall the prices of the entrees being reasonable. Yet, the prices were now grossly inflated (e.g. $ 13.00 for a basic hamburger is exorbitant in the city where there are many wonderful restaurants and an inordinate number of dining options). My first inclination was leaving after looking over the menu but my friend and I were tired and hungry so we ordered something. He chose a Rueben and I selected the garden salad (this menu item indicated the salad would feature an array of crunch garden vegetables). When our dinners arrived the Rueben sandwich was undercooked and the bread was not toasted nor grilled. My friend commented upon how disappointing his meal was in terms of its inadequate preparation. My salad was merely a plate of mixed greens with a few shredded radishes and about as lackluster a salad as I’ve ever seen. I took a few forkfuls of the salad (served without any dressing) and was done. The server never came over and checked on us. Sometime later she returned discovering a significantly uneaten salad and one half of the Rueben remaining on our respective plates. One would think she would have inquired by this time if anything was wrong with our meals but that was not the case. She hastily removed our plates not asking either of us if we wanted our leftovers boxed. Subsequently, in order to add to her check she asked us if we were ready for coffee and desert. I simply asked her for the check, which she presented. We paid and left.I will not go back to the Front Room based upon the aforementioned service, the quality of the food and the overpriced menu. In my opinion the Front Room is no longer the quaint bistro it once was. In my opinion there are far too many superior restaurants in Portland today; so much so that one should strongly consider other options when choosing where to dine out.

Always a good brunch, and the best burger in town.

Hands down the best burger on the planet. Fave is brunch and bloodys.

Front room always has amazing food – one of my favorite brunch spots in Portland. Went in on a Sunday for brunch and there was a wait-that’s to be expected though. There was an obnoxious couple giving the hostess a hard time but she handled herself very well in the situation. We sat down and Caitlin was our server. She did a great job! She has an awesome personality and is an excellent server. I’ve never had a bad experience at this restaurant. The eggs Benedict or veggie gnocchi are always go to items for me. Keep up the good work front room staff!
