High Hopes Dashed. We hadn’t been to Local 188 for a bit but had enjoyed it in the past. Went on a snowy Saturday night, it was busy but mainly with drinkers at 8:15 when we arrived. Sat in the dinning room, cool atmosphere as always and good tunes playing. Sat for 10 min before being acknowledged and another 10 before getting our drinks. We ordered a couple tapas, a salad, and the seafood paella. Tapas were good, salad a bit skimpy for $9 and would have had a least another drink each if waiter was at all attentive. Paella came a good 30 min after apps cleared and it was the wrong Paella, he brought the House Paella which contains chicken and my wife is a vegetarian. The waiter said it would be 30 min before our correct order would be done, no apology, no attempt to make it right, horrible. We had been there 90 minutes at this point with show tickets, so another 30 min was not an option. So we settled for the mushroom risotto since it would take only 10 min, also a meager portion for the $$. Needless to say we were quite disappointed with the lousy service and the experience on a whole but with so many good options in Portland it’s not like we’ll be coming back real soon.

One and Done! If you like to wait over 45 minutes for your food (breakfast burrito and local egg special), not have a single waiter/waitress ask how your food is (could have used some salt and pepper), then get rushed out with the tab, this is the place for you! Eggs weren’t cooked all the way, but for being local food, it was okay. Two hours later, and getting rushed out, we won’t be going back.

LOve the Atmosphere but High Prices. The Local 188 was awesome when it first opened . I still love the food & the atmosphere. However , I feel that the portions are small & the prices are high .It’s great if you are an alcoholic with anorexia that doesn’t mind paying high prices for cocktails ! I will probably visit this place again,

AWFUL service. I’ve only eaten at Local 188 a couple of times, the food was decent in both of my experiences but the service was not the best. Got a gift card there for xmas so I figured I’d go back for brunch. It was the Saturday that followed xmas (28th), so it was essentially a holiday weekend, so, understandably the place was mobbed, but anyone who runs a restaurant should know how to staff it properly on days like that. There were no tables available so we were asked if we wanted to sit and eat on the couch in the middle of the restaurant. Fine by us, we’re not in the least bit picky about stuff like that and we didn’t wanna wait forever for a table. We got menus and waited..and waited..and waited. 25 minutes later after we were visibly annoyed and a waitress finally came to take our order. We ordered our drinks and food all at once. We sat there for another 30 minutes (no exaggeration I was watching the clock.) At that point we got up and walked out. Nearly an hour and not even a drink. We went to Sonny’s downtown instead and had our food in front of us in 15 minutes.

Great for drinks, but not my favorite place to eat. One of the best bloody Mary’s in Portland.

Amazing !!. While on a vacation with my husband to see family, we were in Portland an heard nothing but great things about a spot called Local 188. We were so in love with this place the moment we stepped inside. The waitstaff an hostess were so sweet an helpful when it comes to picking our wine an food. You can see the chefs cooking which just makes the experience more thrilling. The food was out of this world an just so flavorful. We spent 2 hours in here an did not want to leave. Will absolutely be spreading the word about this already local favorite.

Lovely food. I really enjoy Local 188. I have been there quite a few times and I have never been dissapointed with their food. The only thing that I can say has bugged me, has been at times, the service. I know what it’s like working at a restaurant, I also know that it gets busy at times, but I really dislike waiting 10 minutes for a glass of water. Other than that, I can’t wait to go back and if you get a chance to go try the braised ribs….OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
