It’s hard to judge as we had the Detroit Style pepperoni pie, which was good, but not easy to compare to traditional pies with it’s deep dish crust. We’ve enjoyed thin crust at other Otto’s, this one was a bit light on toppings for the price, though everything was tasty. The crust was a bit to charred and the pepperoni thin and sparse. The sauce was done in two stripes down each side making many bites that were sauce free. We’d go back for another traditional pie…

When we visit Portland, we always make sure to grab a few slices of Otto’s awesome pizza. The menu is fairly simple: pizzas, a few salads and appetizers and cannolis for dessert, but that’s pretty much it. And there lies the genius of Otto: the menu is paired down to showcase what they do best. Along with the traditional margherita and pepperoni pizzas, they also offer more gourmet options. My favorites are the mashed potato-bacon-scallion, the mango and pulled pork, and the Gorgonzola and grape (try it!). Not all options are offered by the slice, so ask your waiter. What makes these pies special is the crust: it’s very thin (most slices stick out straight from your hand, no folding needed), but not dry at all. It’s chewy and tasty, not something you leave behind after scarfing down the yummy toppings. Speaking of which, don’t expect a ton of toppings on these babies: Otto proves the motto that a little goes a long way. The result is a pretty amazing pizza that is never soggy but always tasty. They also offer plenty of choices for wine and local beers if you fancy a drink. The staff is warm and friendly, much like the decor. You can also dine outside if you wish. It’s open late, so why not grab a slice on your way home?
