A top restaurant in Portland. We went with another couple the other night for the first time. Along with Emilita, this now ranks as my top restaurants in Portland. Our server, Rebecca, was excellent. She provided useful information and seemed to be there when we needed her, and not there when we wanted to enjoy our meal. I had the Salad with Blue Cheese, Steak Au Poivre and the Eclair for dessert. All were excellent. The other diners enjoyed the Duck special, Monkfish and the cheese plate for dessert. .
As good as France!. Tremendous pomme frites with garlic aioli, as good as you can find in southern France! We loved our meal there, and the drinks were just as pleasing. A definite two thumbs-up! Love it!
Yum n stuff. One of the best restaurants in portland. i’ve been here twice and always leave completely satisfied and amazed that i LOVE everything i order. green salad is simple but deliciously perfect. gnocchi is TO DIE FOR and hands down best gnocchi of my life. get the pot de creme for dessert — YUM!
Yuh. um.. The salad was delish, the house wine was not something I could complain about for $11 for a half carafe (2.5 glasses), and the french onion soup made me want winter to come on faster so I would have excuse to go back for more over and over. I hope this place is around long after I die.
The quiche was fantastic!! Frites amazing.
Fun setting; food just okay. Fortunately, my friend had a gift certificate that covered the entire cost of the meal and drinks otherwise I would have left feeling robbed. Menu looked interesting, but the execution was lackluster. For appetizers, we shared the braised leeks with tomato relish and the green salad with compressed watermelon. There’s is nothing memorable to report on either of these items; they were not unpleasant but certainly didn’t inspire any raves from either of us. For the main course, we shared the rabbit with olives and the fluke meuniere. When the fluke was placed on the table, I was struck by how lifeless the dish looked; the sauce had a very flat finish to it and turned out to be over-salted. The waiter advised us that the olives in the lapin dish were not pitted. (This may be my issue alone, but I prefer to not have to spit out olive pits.) We ate these courses as we did the appetizers – with no comment about the dishes. Dessert was simple: a creme caramel and a strawberry tart. Both were decent, though nothing trailblazing. All in all, could not recommend for a meal, but the atmosphere and the waitstaff were cheerful. The service was well timed and pleasantly attentive, and the decor is charming.
Disappointing. We sat at a pleasant outdoor table on a beautiful evening. We shared escargot. Do not order them if you like them the way they’re usually prepared, broiled in butter and garlic. They’re served drowned in a lot of sauce that includes onions and tarragon. The sauce is sweet. Not a good combination. The hanger steak was marinated until it no longer tasted much like beef, and it was overcooked. What is that stuff they put on potatoes these days to make crisper french fries? They hardly taste like potatoes. They were drizzled with some pretty good aioli, though. The rabbit with olives disappointed, too. The rabbit was nicely cooked, but the olive sauce was slightly gloppy and slightly sweet. Not awful, just not very good.Didn’t try the deserts
