A sushi standby.. Yoshi Hayashi, the owner of Sapporo Restaurant, opened the first Japanese-cuisine restaurant in Maine in Portland in 1984. Sapporo Restaurant quickly became a popular dining spot in Portland’s historic Old Port area. In 1994, he moved his restaurant several blocks to Commercial Street on Portland’s waterfront. He remodeled the restaurant, in 2001, with an expansion designed by a Japanese architect, designer Mr. Toshio Abiko of Boston. Beautiful interior and atmosphere. The nigiri and sashimi is fresh and authentic. Over the years, Sapporo Restaurant has provided Portlanders with a great dining experience. Lunch prices offer great value.

Excellent sushi! One of my all time favorites in Portland of any cuisine, and we have almost all you can think of.
