I am really glad we gave Salvage a second chance. The barbecue is tender and well-seasoned. We ordered the brisket, chopped pork and a half chicken. The sides are thoughtfully made, and have an inventive twist while staying true to the original. I thought the crunchy hush puppies, loaded with scallions and just a hint of sweetness, rivaled my mom’s Deep South recipe. Try as many of the sauces as possible! They are so varied, ranging from exotically totally clear(!) to traditional sweet, thick and deep maroon to savory and loaded with green olives.

Looking for BBQ? Then look no further, Salvage is the spot to go. Ribs, chicken, pulled pork, oh my, so good! One of the best ribs I’ve ever had, complete your order with the Mac & Cheese, corn bread an your all set!

Best BBQ in southern Maine, the ribs are fall off the bone, the sauces are fun and flavorful. The wife and I have tried everything on the menu and it’s all so very good.

Great BBQ. Salvage BBQ is 2 blocks from Hadlock Field, so is a great spot for dinner before a Sea Dogs game. Service was well-organized & fast. Beef brisket sandwich was fantastic. We also had 1/2 chicken, pork sandwich, mild sausage (which was really spicy), and sides of hush puppies, greens, and mac-n-cheese. All was fantastic. We loved being able to choose from a variety of sauces to add to our sandwiches. Fantastic dinner & a great find away from the touristy areas of Portland.

Cool Atmosphere and awesome food. I recently dined at Salvage for a work gathering, and let me just say, it was perfect for a large group of people. The serve yourself atmosphere is just perfect when you don’t want to split the tab or ask the server for separate checks. People were able to go to the bar and order a drink with no hassle and then order their food at the counter when they were ready. We were able to chat and enjoy each other without feeling rushed. And then there’s the food: WOW! A friend and I shared the cow and pig tray which was excellent. We wanted to try the sausage but they were still in the smoker, don’t worry, I’ll be back for them! The pulled pork was tender and had a kick of spice and the brisket was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We both had a side of mac and cheese which was obviously homemade. No Kraft mac and cheese here! I will most certainly be back to Salvage because now I need to try the other delectable things on their menu. My one piece of advice is don’t go here thinking you are sticking to any sort of diet. No salads on the menu, which is okay with me when I’m ready to indulge.

Interesting place – great food. Interesting open concept type place. You order all food and drinks and food is delivered to your table when ready. As name implies, a lot of BBQ or smoked type food. We tried several different items, everything was delicious. (Chicken salad sandwich, beef brisket, cole slaw, even the mac n cheese was great.) Pros – Big roomy tables, open concept, pleasant atmosphere, great food. Cons – Way too small parking lot in the back (we had to park on street), was difficult to understand the menu and pricing (basically meat is purchased in bulk – quite unusual for a restaurant), and we disliked the bar (high prices and the options for draught beer – was stuff we have never heard of) They could use 2 or 3 more well-known draught beer options, such as Bud Lite, Shipyard, etc. The food prices were OK – maybe a little high on some things but average on others. All in all, our family did enjoy the meal and would recommend this place to others.
