Salvage BBQ hit it right on the spot. If you’re looking to dive into some smoked meats, there’s no better place in downtown Portland. We decided to get a Meat Coma and split it. It had all the flavors we wanted to sample including brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, chili, collard greens and beef fat fries. You will definitely walk out of this place with a huge smile on your face!
First visit. Won’t be my last. Half-rack of ribs and some sides ran near $30. Ribs are done perfectly with a dry rub, and you’ll find the heat in the BBQ sauce which is in squirt bottles on the tables. Hush Puppies have jalapeos for some extra spirit. Cornbread is muffins which are halved and grilled. Perfect amount of sugar for slightly sweet taste. Paper plates, paper towels, plastic utensils – rabid indulgence encouraged. Love this place.
Writing this as I eat the leftover chili for breakfast 🙂 What a meal! I have had bbq all over the US and this is VERY good bbq. My family of 4 got the Meat Fatality platter with collard greens, mac & cheese, slaw & hush puppies on the side (you get a choice of 2 but we all wanted something different). The collards are traditional southern with a nice balance of smoked meat/vinegar finish (not overpowering – just right). The Mac & cheese has jalapeo in it which gives it a nice kick (even my kids ate it). Back to the MEAT! There is something for EVERYBODY here…ribs, brisket, 1/2 chicken, pork, sausage, chili…it’s ALL good! The smoker is in the parking lot behind the restaurant and the smells coming from it when huh walk by just beckons you to come in. The house made sauces are great as well. Seating is communal and you inevitably start speaking to your table mates (love this). Very family friendly. Overall atmosphere is one of having a good time with family. Highly recommend!!!
