Yet another great addition to the Portland dining scene! SK feels a bit small and trendy, not your standard dark chinese place, but the food and service is great. We started with the Zhong Dumplings, which were perfect. The dumplings are soft and perfectly textured, the filling a pork mixture with actual discernible flavors. But the red sauce knocks it out, mouth numbingly spicy, but not burn your mouth hot. The Sichuan spice is unlike chile spice, a surprise for those uninitiated. The sweet and sour cabbage was a tender pile of steamed vegetable with a familiar yet unidentified flavor. The double cooked pork was a nice plate of pork belly, leeks and sauce that was warm to the mouth (spicy) but remained flavorful. The only issue we had was with the actual shape of the shallow plate of the pork, which made scooping a bit messy. Our last item was the braised beef noodle, again a well flavored dish with some mouth numbing quality, tender chunks of beef and perfectly cooked noodles. With one beer the bill was $55, well worth the quality and quantity.
