Elegance & Good Taste in One.. My wife and I frequent the foodie scene in Portland 1 to 2 times/Wk and make sure to change-it-up as frequent as possible. Luckily for us Portland allows folks to accomplish the latter goal without having to travel very far at all. With that being said, we place the Cafe’ above Pat’s Meat Market on the top of a very short list in terms of overall experience and quality. Just 2 days ago we both stopped-in after walking through Baxter woods, and Evergreen, and just decided to walk over to the Cafe’ for a relaxing dinner. We had adjusted to the cool temperatures from our walk and requested to be sat on the newly expanded patio. It turns-out we were the first patrons to sit on the deck this Spring 2013 season. They accommodated us very professionally, even lighting all of the tiki torches and turning-on their antique x-mas lights tastefully displayed in the overhanging trees; an elegant sight to behold. The owner of the restaurant came-out to tell us we were the first patrons this Spring and thanked us by paying for a round of drinks. The waitress was prompt, delightful, and read us their specials with enthusiasm. My wife ordered Strawberry Champagne, Sea Scallops and Goat cheese w/ rice, and a spear of zucchini. While I ordered their grilled Swordfish w/ rice, and a Tom Hat Belgium Beer. As usual my tastebuds were in heaven. We chatted and stayed long into the night, gazing at our beautiful surroundings and each other. Their menu has been somewhat different each time we’ve visited, while their most popular dishes stay the same overall. I reccomend this restaurant to even the most picky aficionado. I dare say we both Love this place and certainly look forward to our next visit.
Cafe at Pat’s is a very good neighborhood restaurant. Dining room with exposed building frame is cozy. Enlarged back porch among the trees is an oasis. Food is good, creative, and chef and gang are able to accommodate special diets.
Definitely one of, if not the best, meals I have ever had in Portland. I ordered the sirloin steak with au gratin potatoes which came with grilled zucchini and fresh wild mushrooms. Our bottle of shiraz was great as well as our ravioli crisps appetizer. So good! Our waitress was nice too, Danielle I think it was. The atmosphere is great. Sort of like a cabin with all wood walls and floors and candle lit. I would highly recommend Pats.
I wanted so much to like it! When I heard Pats had made a comeback, I was thrilled. Upon first entering the restaurant, it appeared nothing had changed; same great ambiance, music, etc. Unfortunately, after that, things fell flat. Our waitress was well meaning, but she seemed easily confused by our menu questions, and was absent for most of the meal. The bread that was brought, was stone cold, and not at all fresh. My biggest disappointment, however, was with the menu. When I eat out, I love to have seafood. However, on the Pats menu, all of the seafood came wrapped in filo dough. This to me seemed a horrible, and strange concept for any seafood, but I also couldn’t understand why all the available seafood was being prepared in the same manner. However, I regrouped, and ordered a mussel appetizer as my main course, which proved to be a solid choice. When my goat cheese and spinach salad arrived, I was again disappointed. Nowhere was the baby lettuce I’m accustomed to in restaurant salads. It was instead replaced by huge stalks of spinach, without the stems trimmed. The goat cheese was a tough rubbery triangle wedge, that was not at all reminiscent of the soft, flavorful cheese I love. The entire thing, while sizable, was very disappointing. All in all, I would give my experience at Pats 3 out of 5 stars. The base is there in terms of decor, and concept, but the menu, presentation, and quality control are in need of some serious revision.
Seriously amazing. I rarely go out for dinner … I have had the pleasure of having dinner twice at The Cafe at Pat’s; once with a party of eight, once with a friend. Honestly, just walking up the stairs … the wonderful scents, the whole feel of the place! And, the accoustics … you can hear all the sounds of conversation, music, but they don’t interfere with normal conversation at your table. And the food really was one tastebud surprise after another … several appetizers tried and wanted more; then dinner … I tried something of everyone’s, because each dish was a visual and aromatic work of creativity and perfection … delicious is an understatement! The waitstaff was wonderful, friendly, accommondating! Loved every second and can’t wait for the next time … oh! reasonable, as well!
WHY Can’t We See A Menu?. We enjoyed eating at The Cafe at Pat’s in Portland, Maine a couple of years ago, and we wanted to go back. However, we can’t find a menu or a well-written review anywhere on the internet. What’s up with that? Maybe it is closed. We hope not.
Excelent meals!. I have eaten here several times for dinner and I have NEVER been left unsatisfied. They use really high quality food in their dishes and everything thing I have ever tried there has been cooked to perfection. They have great simple salads and appetizers and they have wonderful seasonal dishes to choose from. Their desserts are to die for-the best chocolate mousse I have ever had! It can be a little pricey with a bunch of people but it’s a great atmosphere paired with great service and great food please get out to Steven’s ave. to check this place out!
