Walter’s is a distinctive bistro that’s survived the test of time in a city where many restaurants come and go. The venue is intimate and has a cool aura. However; Walter’s is also quite pricey and the size of their meals are small therefore keep this in mind. Yet, their food is superb. I’ve always found Walter’s staff attentive, personable and knowledgeable. Walter’s is a great place to talk a date or a business associate for dinner or drinks. Their location is convenient to the Old Port and worthy of giving a try if you’re looking for somewhere new and intimate.
Haven’t been to Walters since they relocated from Fore Street (yes – it’s been that long). Decided to stop in for lunch. Started with the calamari – a bit on the chewy side but the overall taste was great. Had a bit of sweet/spicy thing going on 🙂 As for our main course, my dining companion had the ahi tuna over noodles. SOOO good! Tuna grilled perfectly over a lightly dressed soba noodle. I went in the totally opposite direction with the special of the day – Wagyu Beef sloppy joe. Yep – had to know 🙂 It was LITERALLY the BEST sandwich! Absolutely tender beef made with a chipotle sauce served over a brioche bun. House made chips accompanied this. Wanted to lick the plate! Do not miss!
Ho hum!. That describes the whole atmosphere. Two of us went for dinner on Tuesday, asked for a quiet table…and we were directed to a table in the middle of the seating area! Not my idea of quiet even when its not busy! we chose a corner table. Drinks were slow to arrive (odd considering only 4 tables were occupied). Waitress didn’t know the specials (had to read them word for word from her pad). When we saw the wait staff and hostess sitting down, clearly bored, we decided to leave after our appetizer. A complete lack of atmosphere and not service that I would expect from anywhere. As we paid the bill, the hostess chose to yawn and stretch to which my partner commented to the hostess she was not a great ambassador for her restaurant (for which we got a blank look in response).Interestingly, we were informed at another more enjoyable establishment, that the owners may not always be there as they have grandchildren interstate. It seems to show. When owners not there, service is also not there!
