Watch out for the locals. Quality bakery but this place attracts some of the rudest people. When they put those bagels out it’s like feeding the dogs… If you frequent this place you know what I mean…
True Neighborhood Bakery. Excellent baked goods, probably the best peanut butter cookies and Bagels I’ve had in my life. Great selection of sweets and breads as well as wines, beers, coffee, and other drinks. Staff are always super friendly and even though the place is often packed (for good reason) the line always moves pretty fast. I used to go here 2-3 times a week when I was in school nearby. As for the complaints about dogs, kids, and customer attitudes… C’mon, it’s like a block away from the beach and an elementary school in a nice neighborhood, what did you expect? You can’t judge a business based on that. Prices are excellent and the only negative experience I’ve ever had was coming in before closing to find they’d sold out of bagels (I left earlier thereafter).
Breads, bagels, and sweets are all outstanding. The best and friendliest bakery in Maine, hands down.
Neighborhood secret, no more… Hands down one of the best bakeries, EVER!!!!Try it ALL!!!!So happy to live down the street!!!!!
Great bread, less children and dogs. Fantastic breads, although I wish there was at least one good whole grain option every day. Skip the weekend scene with the yuppie parents and their manic dogs and children clogging the entrance, and visit on the more mellow week days if you can. Also beware of the cheeses: many times I’ve gotten something stale out of the bin but have been too embarrassed to return it. The vibe at the place is a bit too hip for me to face kvetching about a stale $3.68 bit of Humboldt Fog. Which also tells you something. (As does the hand-lettered sign asking customers to keep their dogs from crapping on the store’s garden.)
Fresh and cheerful bakery. Worth a detour. I enjoyed my bagel, which was more like crusty, chewy bread, and great cream cheese with sun-dried tomatoes in it.
A fabulous mushroom kale soup! Lovely sourdough bread and baguettes. Small, but nice selections of wines. A tempting case of baked sweets (marzipan horseshoes were very nicely done).
