Teriyaki Exchange does it right. Of all the Thai/Japanese/Chinese places I have tried in South Portland (I think all of them) Teriyaki Exchange is by far the best. The food is prepared fresh. Everything tastes great and the prices are very reasonable.

Dishappointed. We tried this place for the first time. We had heard good things and read reviews so had really high expectations. We ordered Chicken Teriyaki and spring rolls for lunch and it just wasn’t that good. The spring rolls were nearly empty and all you could taste was the wrap. My first two bites had nothing in it then there was a hint of the vegatables. The chicken teriyaki had very little vegatable (nothing like the photo) but plenty of rice. There wasn’t enough sauce on the rice so it was just plain white rice at the bottom. I would give it a 4 out of 10. maybe it was just an off day, we may try again.

Absolutely amazing sushi. I felt like I was eating art! You must try this place.

I am very pleased to have a Japanese restaurant open here in downtown South Portland. I have tried every Japanese restaurant in the Portland area, and Teriyaki Exchange is one of the best. The portions are large, the makis made tight and bursting with sashimi, and everything is fresh. The chef’s food presentation is a work of art itself! The prices are also extremely reasonable.

Excellent food, service and portion sizes for the price. The owner was very friendly. The crab rangoons were very good and better than most Asian restaurants. The maki roll had fresh fish and the teriyaki chicken had great flavor.

Great new restaurant.. We stopped in for a mid-week dinner after running chores in Mill Creek. The restaurant was small, well lit and inviting. We ordered the Kung Pow Chicken and the Beef and Pea Pods, plus a Unagi Maki. The portions were very large, much more than a normal person could eat in a sitting. The prices were very reasonable for both the amount of food and the quality. Both meats were tender and were good cuts, with no sinew or fat, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the dishes had great flavor. The staff were very nice, the cooks looked happy making the food behind the counter, the waitress was very attentive and friendly and did not let the fact that her young child had just arrived with her (mother?) to the restaurant get in the way of her service to the 2 tables and frequent take out guests. We walked out with satisfied bellies and enough food for a full meal of leftovers for about $25 bucks. I would strongly recommend them both as a sit down and take out option if you live in the area.
