What are they talking about?. I just went to Joshua’s with my family last night. It must be that the previous reviewers went to the wrong restaurant because our experience was fantastic. Joshua’s mother greeted us in a reserved, but friendly manner. She didn’t gush, but that isn’t what I want or expect from a hostess. She heard us talking about the fact that it was our 11 year old daughter’s birthday and she was wished her a happy birthday and then even relayed the fact to our server who was friendly and personable. She made small talk with us and our two children and made all of us feel welcome and comfortable. Each of us ordered a different entree and my husband and I had the opportunity to try all of them. The filet mignon that my daughter ordered was cooked perfectly and tender. It was also well seasoned. My husband had the duck. He was served a large portion of breast as well as a hind-quarter. It was succulent and tender. I had the BBQ pork loin. I couldn’t stop eating it! I would have licked the plate clean if I hadn’t been in public! My son had the haddock fillet. Again the portion was good sized. The haddock was moist and the onion coating was delicious. Three of our entrees had mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes were delicious. Better than my mothers. 🙂 The vegetables were cooked perfectly. My son’s dish came with risotto and vegetables. One of the other reviewers mentioned watery risotto with vegetables. The risotto on my son’s dish was not watery, but moist and the rice was perfect, almost but not quite al dente. Perhaps the reviewer mistook the chive oil that was drizzled around the plate as water, but I don’t see how they could have. It was filled with flavor. Finally we all got our own desserts. Each one was absolutely delicious. My favorite is always the maple walnut pie. I have ordered it both of times we went previously and I ordered it again last night, so I’m glad everyone else ordered their own so I could sample theirs. Overall our evening at Joshua’s was superb, from start to finish. One of the past reviewers said that it was obvious that Joshua had no formal training. In my opinion the exact opposite is true. He cooks as if he had trained at one of the best culinary schools.

Very disappointed. I had called for reservations in sept. for Prelude weekend (Dec1). It was for a table of six. There was no problem reserving a table. My weekend guests were looking forward to this weekend with a nice dinner at Joshua’s. I called back at the beginning of October to confirm we were all set. That is a very busy weekend for the restaurants and I wanted to be sure we had someplace nice for dinner. No problem we were all set with our reservations. I called again on Nov. 27th to confirm again.. They said they did not have reservations for us. They could not find our name any place on the list. I am fuming because I had confirmed in Nov. now they are saying we do not have reservations and they are full. All II can say is someone crossed our name off and put someone else in. Unable to find another nice restaurant for that weekend. Talk about spoiling someone’s weekend.

Distasteful!!!!. Sunday night oct. 7. 730 reservation. First impression at check in ,do you have reservation name given, lady says yes, then ignores us to speak to other. guess she wasn’t glad to see us. We were seated at table for 2. one seat with back to doorway where everyone walks by. waiter stalkerly stares at my daughter with each course from wine to bread to appetizer to entree. reached uncomfortably across her at every chance he could. Needs to be let go!Chicken entree in sauce that tasted orange but no orange in description! we do not like orange. also stuffing including ham which was hard to find was tasteless.Filet so crusted in salt you could not taste the meat . Meat was no melt in your mouth and tough for a filet. This $111. evening is such a letdown. vegetables being the best thing served.Joshua do you know your MOM is not cordial or friendly. We are not the first reviewer to state this. You must make your customers feel welcome not afraid to speak! The chef needs to taste his food and up the game. Maybe try something new like HERBS Spice? What represents you in the front of the house needs to be warm and inviting. You have a beutiful location . Make your food match it.Sorry wanted so to come home and rave about this restaurant.

High Class but not High Brow. My husband and I have travelled extensively throughout the United States, England and Ireland. Our meal at Joshua’s was one of the best we have every enjoyed. We had a bad travel day with lots of construction but the courteous and friendly waitress said it would be the best part of our day and it was definitely true. We had the carmelized onion encrusted haddock and the mussels. The next time we’re in New England, we will definitelhy go back!! Thank you, thank you Joshua and staff. All was wonderful!

Amateur Hour. For all of the rave reviews I was surprised by me experience. The front of house performances ranged from pretentious to robotic to incompetent. The hostess is the chef’s mother and seemed a bit full of herself. Our waitress was robotic and annoyingly seeming to work the name Joshua into every description of every item. There was a big kerfuffle at the table behind us when a waitress swiped the wrong patron’s cards for each others checks. The food itself was only fair. The mushroom starter was very salty. My haddock was under seasoned and tasteless while my vegetables were severely over seasoned. Even basic platting techniques were cast aside with watery vegetables placed right next to risotto on the same plate. My date’s vegetarian entree was undercooked, over seasoned ravioli masquerading as homemade. The restaurant’s web site claims the chef has no professional training and I believe that is the most accurate anecdote to describe my experience.

Gracious service. Delicious food, all with very fresh, high quality ingredients. The Haddock (carmelized onions encrusted) with risotto was superbly seasoned. The lobster pie was excellent with a not-too-heavy broth. Homemade Maine blueberry pie with homemade ice cream will be long remembered!
