They need help. I’m writing this hoping the owners will read it. Mexican Cafe used to be the place to go if you wanted good mexican food in the Annapolis area. My husband and I used to go there often since we started dating few years ago. Not anymore. The past few times were very disappointing. Food was cold, they no longer have the drunken crab dip (which was delicious and one of the best things they offered) and service is going down hill. The last time we went, they had no coke, no pepsi, no chicken tenders, no crab dip and when my husband ordered his favorite deep fried quesadilla, he was told they didn’t have it. In any restaurant you go, if they don’t have coke, somebody will go to the nearest Sam’s club to get it, for Gods sake. What restaurant doesn’t have Coke or Pepsi anyway? We’ll give it some time to see if things improve; otherwise, Mexican Cafe has lost one of its most loyal customers.

We waited for at least a half hour before we flagged down someone and asked them to take our order. I mentioned that the waiter who served our drinks seemed like he was tired: he said that it was because he was sick with a sore throat. He didn’t write down our order, which was then messed up, although they did correct it. Also, they didn’t mention that the special (half priced margaritas) did not apply if you were going to use a Groupon. When I asked to speak to the owner, I had to go to the back to speak to her: she would not even come to the table. I can understand that: I would be embarrassed by the place too! We used to like this place a lot. But it sure has gone down hill.

The food is delectably fresh and portions are very generous! The service left a little to be desired, I ordered a grande margarita and was served a regular? I questioned the server and she stated it was the grande. After I finished the drink, I asked the server what the smaller virgin looked like and she couldn’t tell me? She went and got a menu at which time she realized she messed up at my expense and never made an attempt to satisfy. My dissapointment even after I suggested that she serve me another normal size for the cost of the grande, seems fair enough, right, guest not!
Margaritas? yes, please.. Mexican Cafe has great margaritas! You can have one or five while you wait two hours to be seated! But isn’t that why people go there? Food is good, typical mexican fare. Service is good as well. Try it out, but expect your estimated hour wait to be more like two hours, so grab a margarita! Cheers!
