Parisian-style patisserie. Sweet Hearts Patisserie has a wide-ranging selection of pastries, from gaily-coloured macarons to various cakelets and even whole fancy tarts. I could see this place making it as a local bakery in Paris, and I’ve visited France enough to not just be talking out of my ae when I say that. I like the shopping centre it’s in, which has an upscale wine bar, gourmet food market and other places that would appeal to Annapolitan yuppies.I NEVER order cupcakes — I consider them a childish food fad item — but when I saw that Sweet Hearts had a maple-bacon cupcake, I had to have one for Canada’s sake. Thick buttercream icing that tasted like it was made with real butter, a subtle flavour of maple, and it had bacon on top — how great is that? They could lose the cupcake underneath, for all I care. My daughter, who’s on a red velvet cake kick, said her cupper in that style was OK. I even liked the cappucino I had at Sweet Hearts, which was a bit on the milky side, but it tasted like an OK French cafe au lait.
