Long-time Pasadena resident who loves NC BBQ,. AE BBQ is a wonderful addition to the Lake Shore food emporiums. Don’t let the nit-pickers scare you off. It is the best BBQ within 20 miles. Well worth the trip and a great $ value. Finger likin’ good.

My hubs and I are self proclaimed BBQ connoisseurs… Since we live in Pasadena, we were super psyched to see this place added to our community. They were a little iffy at first, but they are getting steadier on their feet now. We usually get the BBQ Sampler to share (chicken, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, plus three sides for $19). Their coleslaw is really good! It’s got the slightest kick to it and a tiny hint of onion. The Mac n cheese is tasty too. I hate to say it, but their sauces aren’t that great to me, but if they started offering Alabama White Sauce, I might sing a different tune. It’s a nice casual family restaurant. If you had a bad experience once, I hope you give it another try! I support this local business! Tasty BBQ! Different, but GOOD different!

High hopes dashed. After reading about the Easton place online I was glad they opened one closer. I had the sampler with 3 sides. The ribs were hard to judge since they sauced them, but they seemed OK. They were cooked long enough that they weren’t tough and the bone came away clean. The chicken was pretty good, but again they were freshly sauced without asking whether i wanted it that way. The pork won’t be what you expect if you are an Eastern NC BBQ fan. it wasn’t pulled, as advertised, but came in larger chunks. It had a good smoky flavor, but they have no vinegar/pepper sauce to compliment it. Lastly, the brisket was cut a little thick, and had an OK smokiness, but was perilously close to just being just like a piece of roast beef. The potato salad was average, as was the slaw, and the beans had as much non-bean ingredients like peppers as it did beans. It was also a little boring, unfortunately. On the plus side, they do have bottled beer available, with a few microbrews. All in all, I appreciate the attempt, but its no where near the gold standard of Andy Nelson’s. If I was in the area and hungry I might go back just to avoid a chain burger joint, but until they make some progress I won’t make a special trip or recommend it.
