I thought that Maryland was famous for Crabs!. The Seaside Restaurant in Glen Burnie is about 20 minutes from central Baltimore. We drove out looking for great Maryland crabs. The Cream of Crab soup was delicious. The Crab Toast appetizer was overly cheesy and too rich, but good. The Crab Cake entre was good and almost all crab. The sides of green beans and mashed potatoes were only OK.The pick-your-own crabs come in various sizes and in any number of crabs that you want (pay per crab, which is nice). They are good, but a LOT of work.Another diner told us that they might not be Maryland crabs at this time of year (March) and that they probably came from Louisiana. So we asked a staff member where the crabs came from. The staffer said that they do come from Louisiana and do all year long except for maybe a few weeks in August or so. And the staffer also claimed that Louisiana crabs are better, anyway. So what the heck am I making sure that I go to a crab house in Maryland when I live on the Gulf Coast???
Fantastic! Definitely try the vegetable crab soup
The best seafood restaurant in GB!!
Awesome place! My wife and i never had crab before and the staff was so helpful; a tableside crash course in crabs! Great service and great food! You will not be disappointed
Not great at all, she crab soup too creamy, lobster w/ crab imperial tough and flavor of pimentos overbearing. Great service but the only good things here are the drinks and I suppose the crabs which is what most were ordering.
Cream of Crab!!!! If you love ya mouth…get some of this deliciousness!! Staff is friendly even the other customers…which let me try the cream of crab before I ordered. Crab cake and fried shrimp were good as well.
Top-notch cream of crab. I recently reviewed my visit to the Pasadena location of Seaside. Today I stopped at the Glen Burnie location on a weekday afternoon and ordered a bowl of cream of crab along with a small loaf of hot, crusty bread with butter. As stated in my other review, the cream of crab here can’t be beat: plentiful, sweet lumps of crab meat in a cream that is not too thick, not too thin. The seasonings are perfect. I should have stopped after this filling soup, but ordered baked Talapia which was seasoned well but had a fishy smell (as we know, fresh fish should never smell fishy.) My friend ordered fried orange roughy which looked absolutely delicious. Overall, Seaside keeps bringing me back for their cream of crab and the fish was one of the rare disappointments I’ve experienced here. Generally, everything I’ve ordered at Seaside has been excellent. On a final note, I do not care for the decor inside of Seaside-Glen Burnie and there was an unpleasant odor when we walked through the door. I don’t like the rubber table cloths, even though I realize they are good for cracking hard crabs (it would be much better to do it Maryland-style and unroll thick paper when people are ordering crabs.) In general, the decor needs some updating. The Pasadena location, although small, has a much better seafood atmosphere.28 Feb, 2011New location, still the best cream of crab. I ventured to the Pasadena location of Seaside on a Sunday afternoon. The place looked small and there were only a couple of cars in the parking lot. I had great experiences at the Glen Burnie location, so I was interested to see how this one would stack up. Inside, the new place is cramped but clean. The walls are adorned with a wide array of Baltimore pictures (sports figures, historical photographs, etc.). I was a bit put off by the fact that the waitress asked me what I wanted to drink before I sat down, but she made up for this later with excellent service. I had a bowl of cream of crab soup and I wasn’t disappointed. Seaside simply makes a top-five cream of crab soup with large sweet lumps of meat and the perfect texture and consistency (some places make it like paste, others like water.) I also had a New York strip, medium-well, baked potato with butter and sour cream, a broiled crab cake, and applesauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the crab cake had lumps of meat with minimal filler. The apple sauce did not seem to be out of a jar as it featured great texture (small chunks of sweet apple, not baby food.) This was simply a great meal and I applaud Seaside for maintaining their food and service quality at the new location.
