Guess we caught it on a good night. From the reviews, it sounds as if this place is uneven. In our case, the experience was excellent. My friend and I both got two meat platters. My pulled pork was good, moist and smoky. It wasn’t authentic North Carolina ‘Q, but it was good. The brisket was excellent, not too fatty, tender and juicy, nice smoke flavor as well. The fries were good, the corn bread was forgettable. Service was friendly and prompt. Afterwards, the owner/chef came out and talked to us for a good 15 minutes. We shared our favorite barbecue places and asked him a bunch of questions about his background and the restaurant. Very friendly and interesting guy. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but it all worked out. Pro tip: The place is BYOB; there’s a decent liquor store not too far away on Pulaski Highway. Also, Flameworks doesn’t charge a corkage fee or glass fee when you bring your own alcohol.
