The place was big inside with ample seating. The ladies at the counter were nice. You order at a counter, like a sub shop, then go find a table and wait to be called. The music was a bit loud. The booths and tables could use an upgrade. The pizza was very large but topped with canned or frozen toppings…very disappointed since word of mouth was so positive for this place. They also have handmade milkshakes and other food besides pizza! And if you love their pizza, they have some remade in a refrigerator case you can take home and top yourself.

Disappointed. Pizza johns has always been my favorite for pizza. Been there multiple times. I will NOT be going there no time soon. Customer service was Awful!! I drove from dundalk to essex just for 4 meatballs n a 32oz container of their meat sauce. It took 20 MIN to recieve that. Cashier was very unfriendly. Meatballs were TERRIBLE!! Myself nor my husband could eat them. They were spicy, meat was tough. Next time, im going to Vinnies Cafe on Holabird Ave. Always pleasant n food is always GREAT!!! You are always given a warm friendly greeting. Unstead of dealing with a 16yr old female who has a attitude n is playing with her hair while she is obviously not wanting to be there. But hey, at least my dog was happy..lol. he ate the meatballs
I live a hour and 20 minutes away and still make the trip!. It’s not in the best looking area (Essex), but it’s such a nice place to go. Once you walk in everyone is nice who work there and the restaurant is like you stepped into Italy. The food is all so good and such a big menu. The pizza is the best I’ve ever had, they put the perfect amount of sauce and cheese on it everytime. There sauce is so delicious on everything! When I meet someone who has never had them I make it my mission to have them go there.
Pizza price. I love their pizza. I would drive from Dundalk to get their pizza about once a week. Now I live in Essex it’s even closer. But the increases in the pizza has kept me away as much. I know everything is going up but $20 for a large one topping pizza is ridiculous.
Pizza That Keeps You Wanting More!. Recently, a friend and I were in the Essex area running errands, when I remembered a restaurant recommended to me not to long ago. Pizza Johns was that restaurants name and it was my next restaurant on GoodEats.Located just a few minutes from Eastern Avenue, itll be tough to miss the gigantic pizza-man structure located in front of the restaurant. This Italian restaurant powerhouse has been family owned since 1966.Once inside the recently expanded golden restaurant, you approach one of the several registers on the counter to place an order. Everything on the menu is fresh and most of the menu is made in house.Atop the list of food to try has to be one of their homemade pizzas. You start with fresh dough topped with homemade sauce and fresh grated cheese, along with your choice of any of the ten extra pizza toppings. I recommend trying the sausage pizza with butcher-cut ground nuggets of deliciousness.Another menu item worth a try is the Italian cheesesteak, which blends a fresh, crunchy submarine roll with ground butcher grade beef and your cheese of choice. This was quite the enjoyable cheesesteak.A landmark of Baltimore and a favorite of the Essex community, this is a fantastic Italian restaurant.Please Enjoy!Until next time. I wish you GoodEats
I love love their food….pizza is the very best…when family comes into town that’s all they want….prices are higher than most but well worth it
